Af llaelgllkc X The B's of the year 1946 had a successful season, in spite of having had one defeat from the Brawley quintet. The Pups in return toured to Brawley to defeat them by a bigger margin. After having had such tough and competent oppo- sition, the Pups managed to come out on the top. The B's show appreciation and gratitude to a coach who knows his stuff, Mr. Swango. The Calexico Puppies were the only undefeated team in all the IMPERIAL VALLEY LEAGUE. They had a few close skins with a couple of the Valley quintets, but our little five would always come out of the basketball court on top like cream on milk. They were instructed and taught a few tricks on how to play the game by coaches Sammy Nunez and Richard Felix. l lilli UB!! Aallfllgllmillf Basketball prospects for this year were what any coach could ask for. with the 1945 starting line returning and all of the subs having had playing experience. The Bulldogs started off exactly like last year, and, at the cnd of the' first half of league play, were ahead by winning all of the games. The second half started the same way, until the games with Brawley and E1 Centro when disaster fell. They lost these games, which would have de- cided the Championship, in a peculiar way: To Brawley they lost 42-41--l point: to El Centro, 50-20--30 points! So ended the season with El Centro, Brawley, and Calexico tied for first place. Highlight of the season was the successful Bulldog pre-season invasion of San Diego, in which they defeated San Diego vocational and Coronado in the same day. Every player in the squad lettered and Padilla and Felix were selected in the All Valley first team while Dowe placed on the second team This was Felix third year on the top five Branz A J Britton Frank Cavanah Earl Dowe Les Calexico f Calexico Calexico Calexico Calexico Calexico 32 D Vocational Coronado Imperial Brawley Calipatria Fl Centro Felix Richard Geermg Jim Medlna Manuel Moreno LOU1S Calexico Calexico Calexico Calexico Calexico Calexico 2C Padilla Carlos Pellegrin Louis Stinson Charles Ybarra J oe I-1oltv1lle Imperial Calipatria Yuma Brawley E1 Centro ' 31 ee etw- s, . MSXWV lllplllfl llL4lDlW W The Boys' tennis team had a ve'ry good season except for a couple of slim defeats. The Bulldogs traveled to Yuma to defeat the Criminals in a close match, and went to San Diego only to lose a close one' to the Grossmont Foothillers. The Bulldogs engaged the El Centro Spartans in a two out of three gamc series for the valley championship, and it was necessary to play only the first two for the Bulldogs to cinch their third consecutive valley title. The girls' team played two practice matches with El Centro, but the lack of girls forced the Bulldogs to concede the championship to the Spartanettes. s .7 , lwww ,l.a.-1 .J ' BYHUZ, A- J- Delgado, Arsenio L1a,n0s,Ma,ri0 , Br-amz, Miko Delgado, Rodolfo JI' Moreno, Frank ff' ' Brazie, Betty Doolittle, Jeanni Nunez, Sammy '-- f Calvin, Travis Garcia, Alfred Otter, Alice Carmichael, Joy Garcia, Javier Reed, Jerry 2 , Cavanah, Earl Gunterman, Jean Servin, Lupe ' if Chavez, Carlos Jacobs, Lyla Silva, Elvira ' Q l F- . ,
