In July of 1969, ADU was colonized by Delta Upsilon International Fraternity. Installation as a chapter of Delta Upsilon was scheduled for May. The chapter and the brothers are actively involved in all facets of college and community life. Inter- Fraternity Council sports events and Greek Week round out the physical life. Alpha Delta Upsilon men come from all majors and varied backgrounds, giving the individual brothers an exposure to a wide range of subject interests and many varied philosophies. The IFC scholastic award has been in ADU's possession more than any other house. Delta Chi Fraternity at Cal Poly believes in brother- hood. School comes first, but there is more to be gained from college life than just grades. Delta Chi greatly enhances social education and increases ability to work with others. Ability to work together has enabled DX to win the IFC football and basket- ball championships last year and to successfully complete several service projects. Many of the brothers are active on campus holding positions in Welcome Week, student government and activities. College Union Committees, Mens Glee, the Marching Band and many others. Several of the brothers represent the school in baseball, bas- ketball and track. ADVERTISING 243 AI t The sight of fraternity men working to- gether is not uncommon around the Delta Sigma Phi house located at 1134 Palm St. It can be found that in essence this is DSP's basic premise, all working together to de- velop a deep pride in themselves, their bro- thers and their fraternity. The secret of working together is to work toward some common goal. This past year goals were to excell in sports and scholar- ship. In sports, the Greek Week activities trophy and also the IFC all-Sports Trophy were captured last year. In scholarship the GPA of the house has remained above the Cal Poly men's average. With an active membership of over 80 men. Delta Sigma Phi is Cal Poly's largest frater- nity. The goal for next year is to expand the fund raising program so that construc- tion on the new fraternity house located on California Boulevard, one block from cam- pus, can begin. The aim of ATO is to maintain fraternal unity without destroying the individual- ity of its members. The fraternity is de- signed for the quest of social enjoyment. This quest encompasses sports, social and brotherhood. ATO is socially oriented and constantly strives to maintain the “partying tradi- tion. Parties included costume parties vary- ing from Boxer Shorts to Mazola Oil. In the past, ATO was considered by most of the fraternities not to be much of a threat in IFC sports. But a renewed and hearty interest has developed in the past three years, which is characterized by wild before and after game celebrations. ATO has come a long way, but it plans to do far more in the future. And, because of this, the active membership will con- stantly be searching for new students who are willing to give as much as they can re- ceive from ATO. ADVERTISING 245 Alpha Sigma is presently starting it's thirteenth year as a social fraternity at Cal Poly. Alpha Sigma has a great deal to be proud of; a heritage, a re- putation, a fine house,a functional backyard, a party room and bar, but most important a closeness to each other that can only be experienced by fraternity bro- thers. To Alpha Sigs, fraternity life doesn't end at grad- uation but extends into the alumni. The brotherhood is located at 1681 Phillips Lane, close to campus. April 23, 1970, California Eta Chapter of Phi Kappa Psi National Fraternity celebrated its fourth anni- versary. In the four years they have installed eight pledge classes. Along with close brotherhood Phi Kappa Psi stresses academic excellence. During the previous years the fraternity has won the IFC scholarship award for the fraternity with the highest GPA. I K Y The fraternity has had and presently has several brothers who have been extremely active in campus clubs and affairs. ADVERTISING 247 Kappa Chi Fraternity became the Zeta Phi Chapter of Theta Chi National Fraternity in November of 1969 when it was installed as the 159th Theta Chi House since 1856. In its first year as a national fraternity the Zeta Phi Chapter has shown itself to be a leader at Cal Poly as well as the Southern Region of Theta Chi. Hosting presidents' meetings, conducting regional tournaments and social gatherings, and entertaining national officers has been a much enjoyed part of the brothers' life. In San Luis Obispo, Theta Chi's Haunted House was a huge success last Halloween as was this year's Mental Health Drive. Our best wishes go with this year's departing seniors, hoping they'll remember their contribution to Cal Poly’s way of life as the Brothers of Theta Chi look forward to next year and all the joys it will bring.
