The Sweetheart Dance was sponsored by FHA and FFA. Magazine sales and concession stands provided funds for all these activities. Brenda Hadenfeldt FBLA kicked off the 1984-85 school year with a cookout and games at the Cairo Park. New members were encouraged to participate in the opening year event. In spite of the cool day the turn out was good. The Chapter had a record membership, with 36 members for the school year. President Kelli Obermiller initiated a new club project with the adoption of a Foster Child from Haiti. Club members will be corresponding with 8 year old Kettlaire Elie from Galette Roche Blanche, Haiti and providing for some of his daily living needs through the club’s donation. State FBLA convention was one of the year’s highlights with George Fieldgrove winning an honorable mention in the Business Systems and Procedures Contest and Brenda Hadenfeldt winning 1st Place in the Clerk-Typist I contest and an Honorable Mention in Spelling. Brenda will represent Nebraska in the Clerk-Typist I contest at the National FBLA Convention in Houston, Texas in July. The Year’s activities came to an end with an Ice Cream Social after the Spring Band Concert to raise additional funds and an Officer Installation Supper at Dowd’s Restaurant. 28

FFA BANQUET Lunch Time The Centura FFA have had a very exciting and rewarding year. In June, they attended the officers training program in Aurora. This group set as a goal the establishing of an FFA Alumni Officers. An excellent slate of officers were elected. As the year progressed, the FFA members won at every major contest they entered. In November, eleven members went to Kansas City to the National FFA Convention. Then in April, they competed in the State Convention in Lincoln. Jack Reimers and Marty Hargens received the highest award given by the State FFA Association. It was the State Farmer degree. The year was capped by the annual FFA parent member banquet. 180 people enjoyed the evening and it was rated a great success.
