Johnson, C. Spink, K. Violet. Although this was the first year that Byron actually had a solid fresh-soph wrestling team, the young matmen won more matches than they lost. Two outstanding individuals in fresh-soph action were freshmen Frank Johnson and Dan Wilmarth. At 119 pounds, Johnson won 12, lost 5, and tied 1 of his 18 matches. Wil- marth, 126 pounds, compiled a 12-6-0 record. Next year we will lose many wrestlers to the varsity level, but we are expecting an even stronger team be- cause of junior high training. 21

VARSITY WRESTLING Byron Varsity grapplers came out with a winning season record of 9-7-2. This is the first season with more wins than losses, which is quite outstanding since the team has had only four years of experience. Outstanding seniors were Mike Mallory, 132 lbs., who received a second at district and at sectional, but could not place at the state meet; and Tim Meeker, 138 lbs., who supplied the crowd with many exciting moments and ended the season with a 13-8-1 record. Mike compiled a 26-5-0 total and was selected most valuable wrestler. Mike and Tim were chosen 1974-75 team captains. Girls' volleyball met with success this year in both J.V. and Varsity competition. The J.V. team was able to compile a perfect 10-0 record for the second year in a row. For the varsity, an 11-2 record overall wasn't perfect, but their 7-0 conference performance was. Unfortunately, the girls were unable to advance past the semi-finals in the conference meet.
