Whether its an orchestra providing themes and accompaniment for vocalists in a major musical, or a jazz band cheering on the Pirates at a ball game, the band makes the event more fun for all of us, They fill us with pride and school spirit when we see them marching in parades and contests. The band has undergone great growth during the past two years under the leadership ofRozzy Purdy. By expanding the elementary band taking in litth graders for the first time, she has insured that she has a Hesh crop of musicians coming on. Admittedly, the band will feel the loss next year of a ward -winning seniors such as Mark Balthrop, Casey Saunders, Dana Atwood, Lisa Spann, and Randy Hooser, but happily there are replacements who will be just as enthusiastic about playing 'Tor the fun of it. . . ..,n,vi in V N M 7,,.....a.:N,.:,L,, N J.: 1, .ZWLM s Y I My . Art Demonstra tion Goes International This has been a neat year for the art department! says teacher Freda Flatt as she recalls several new art experiences for her students. We took a troop of kids to Oklahoma City to the Education Fair in the Hall where we demonstrated plaster scuhnture. As a result of our exposure, we were invited to Tulsa next October to demon- strate our sculpture techniques to the International Visual Literacy Association. We ha ve just finished small drawings and paintings to be inserted into programs for the Oklahoma Symphony in Oklahoma City for the month of March, which is Youth Art Month across the nation. As a part of this celebration, three of our students will ha ve art work hung in the Oklahoma State Capitol during March. Eve students entered their work in the Visions of the Universe contest at Kirkpatrick Center in Oklahoma City. More than 2,000 entires will compete, and we are hopeful that we will be among the 200 chosen to be honored at a banquet in the spring. We received a trophy for first place in window decorations for Christmas. The students painted the Ada Evening News' windows. We have also done window decorations and demonstrations at nursing homes during the year. 'My students enjoy competing. We will be going to ECU scholas- tics meet in February and to Seminole junior College and Murray State in March. Southeastern State is on our April schedule. Fun - 73 -damentals
