V r V I I jumps out. The crowd goes crazy with laughter. Such things earn rodeo clown DeWayne Friar his livelihood. During the summer of1984i Dewayne decided the bull -riding I his previous hobbyj was making him no money. It was then he made his decision to go to a bullfighting school. DeWayne attended such a school that fall. There he learned the primary rule in bulllighting: 'If the cowboys gets hung up, I risk my life for his. De Wayne claims that this principle makes him nervous, but it doesn't discourage him. 'I enjoy what I do. Its exciting! Along with is previously mentioned toy poodle, DeWayne also does acts with his mule named Mary IThat2s my mom is name too, laughs De Wayne. 2 He keeps the crowd laughing all the time. But its not all fun and games, there is danger involved too. You have to get as close to the bull as you can without getting hit. You ha ve to be aggressive in saving your cowboysg a lot of quick thinking is involved. DeWayne had a prime example of this when his pants fell down in the middle ofthe arena. Plus, he has to think up his own acts. 'T have been embarrassed a lot of times, he claims with a grin. DeWayne plans to make his living at rodeo clowning. He will attend bullfighting school again this spring. He presently spends a lot of time perform - ing at rodeos. In the spring, he will ha ve one almost every weekend. So rar, his biggest rodeo was in Ft. Worth where 40000 people attended. When asked his feelings concerning his job, DeWayne states, 'Y like embarrassing people and being the center of attention. Holding the cooler up above his head, the clown frantically drinks the liquid. When the yel- lowish liquid stops pour- ing Hom the container, the clown opens the cooler to investigate. As he pulls back the lid, a little white toy poodle
