He received his commission in April 1965. upon completion of Officers Candidate School at Newport. Rl. Prior to assuming command of USS BUTTE on June 8. 1983. Commander MADISON was the Executive Officer onboard the USS PIEDMONT. Previous assignments at sea include tours as Damage Control Assistant aboard the USS SAVAGE (DER-386). Engineering Officer aboard the USS FECHTELER (DD-870). Meterologist aboard the USS GUADACANAL (LPH-7). and Engineering Officer aboard the USS DETROIT (AOR-4). Ashore. Commander MADISON was assigned to the Readiness and Training Div. Commander. Naval Surface Force. U.S. Atlantic Fleet, and served as a Meteorologist at the Fleet Weather Center, both of Norfolk. Va.
