The summer schedule called for training for the Marching Band as well as meeting requirements for the advanced Con- cert Band. With a great deal of dedication and pride by all concerned, the band began taking shape for the forthcoming football shows and for marching competition. New members were helped by the squad leaders (picked from senior and junior bandsmen), and the field marshalls molded the squads into a well-drilled and competent field unit, a unit dedicated to uphold the high standards set by former Butler bands, and to further the spirit of Butler High School. Phe band parti ipated at the football games, and through the support of the student body made the trip with the football team to Montgomery. and the game with Jefferson Davis. lhe band. with the football season still well under way, turned its attention toward Rossville, Georgia, ind the Chattanooga Marching Band Contest. This was to be the second performance e for the band at this contest, having received a SUPERIOR its first attempt in 1968 The band again repeated its performance with aSUPERIOR rating. After the contest at ‘ hattanooga, the band, with the addition of the Dixie Debs, ts sights on the Contest of Champions al l irphres sboro, Tennessee. This contest, as its name age the most respected of marching contests.
