At Butler High School, students began to probe the mysteries of science in Biology I, Biology ll, physical science, advanced space science, physics, and chemistry. ln these classes science is a simple question followed by an unending search. Biology I and Biology ll students considered all living things and how they live in various environ- ments. Biology ll students were 'fascinated as they dissected frogs and cats. Physics students had a laboratory period each week in addition to five class periods. Here they studied mechanics, heat, sound, electricity, light, and nucleonics. Seniors explored the world of the experimental science - chemistry. Here they performed many experiments and learned of atomic structure and how to identify compounds and elements. Physical science taught the basic principles and laws of the various science to those students who were not enrolled in another science course. In advance space science the exploration in space was studied. Butler High also offered an extensive accelerated program for ambitious student mathematicians. In accelerated math, four and a half credits of math were completed in four years. Advanced placement mathematics offered five and a half credits in five years. AP students were able to receive college credit and placement if they were successful in the AP examination.
