The Fine Arts Provide Creative Expression l. I S s Thomas Crane Art Palette Art Club Anthony DeFurio Arts and Crafts Art , f ,'i ,. rg Richard Dryden Dr. Dryden teaches basic fundamentals to choir members. Vocal Music lt is the supreme art ofthe teacher to awaken ioy in creative expression and knowledge. Albert Einstein empha- sized the need for art and music classes in school. The Music Department ex- posed music-loving students to the rich rewards of music. These students gained a better understanding of music and musical instruments. The vocal groups provided entertainment for many programs, and the Organ Guild performed at many assemblies. The art courses were designed to offer an opportunity to explore talents in the various uses of the art media. Art I students learned the basic skills and techniques of art work. In Art ll com- mercial art and crafts were combined. The student artists made posters for school events. ln the art and music classes students learned to appreciate cultural achievements. Parlez-vous francais? Many Butler High students learned French, German, Latin, or Spanish. They studied pronunciation, grammar, and foreign Fliterature, but they also learned to appreciate the world and its people. German and Spanish offered three year programs, and Latin and French provided four year programs. Each lan- guage was the key to many adventures in reading and living, traveling, and studying. Foreign language study helped students to better understand English and to enlarge vocabularies. Tape recorders, displays, flash cards, movies, and songs mingled with textbooks and tests in the language classes.
