Dr. Carl L. Heinrich was appointed president of the college in February after a month of holding the title of acting president. He succeeded Edwin J. Walbourn who resigned in December to become executive director of Kansas Association of Com- munity Colleges. Dr. Heinrich began his teaching career in Great Bend in 1958. From Great Bend he went to Topeka to become Guidance Consultant with the Kansas State Department of Public Instruc- tion. From 1963 to 1970 he was director of the Community Junior College and College Accreditation Section. He then became Director of Community College Education, Emporia Kansas State College until 1974, when he became Vice-Presi- dent of Butler County Community College. As Vice-President Dr. Heinrich was responsible for develping the highly success- ful Outreach program. He was graduated from Kansas State University with a B.S. degree, and he received his M.S. degree from Emporia Kansas State College. Dr. Heinrich earned his Ed. D. degree from the University of Kansas. Dr. Heinrich is married and the father of four sons. He and his family reside in Augusta. V. . .j i,

Edwin J. Walbourn, President of Butler County Com- munity College, resigned at the end of the fall semester to become executive director of the Kansas Association of Community Colleges. Mr. Walbourn has been involved in the growth of the college since he came to the campus in 1952 as an instructor. At that time the school had an enrollment of 265 compared to over 1400 this year. He began his work in the administrative branch in 1959 when he succeeded the dean to become acting dean of the then El Dorado Junior College. He remained in that position until 1963 when he was named the first president of the new coun- ty college. Mr. Walbourn was instrumental in the action that helped make El Dorado Junior College the first county college in the state. In his new capacity, Mr. Walbourn will continue to be closely allied with the progress of the college. Because of his long devoted service to BCCC, and for his special interest in and understanding of journalism, the staff of the 1976 Grizzly wishes to dedicate this yearbook to President Edwin J. Walbourn.
