BOATRIGHT approves drafting plans Vocational Technical New Department Meets County Demands THE VOCATIONAL AND TECH- NICAL area is a new field added to our curriculum this year and will be greatly increased with a third build- ing on the campus next year. Oppor- tunities for training leading to em- ployment are available to persons with or without a high school di- ploma, and those with high school training may secure an Associative of Arts diploma in technical educa- tion in their chosen area. FIRST CLASS of nursing students, FRONT ROW: Pam Startz, Sharon Jordan, Linda Mae Panting, Karen Higgins, Penny Startz, Mrs. Mettler, instructor; BACK ROW: Mr. Hughes, instructor; Margaret Brewer, Myrle Thornbrugh, Ruby Kindle, Judy Ward, Marilynn Marten Nursing Associate Degree Program Is Inaugurated History was written this year when an associate degree program in nursing, the first in Kansas, was organized, subse- quently approved by the Kansas State Board of Nursing, and then initiated into the curriculum at Butler County Community Junior College. Under the direction of Mrs. Marilynn Mettler, who was assisted by Mr. Samuel Hughes, the curriculum and course of study were painstak- ingly prepared. Students who are accepted into the program and complete the course of study will receive their Asso- ciate of Arts Degree and then will be eligible to write the State Board examinations, the completion of which in neces- sary to become registered nurses. STUDENT NURSES gather in college classroom for a study in Principles of Nursing. Regular hospital beds for practice in bed- side care have become part of the room equipment. 20
