The first semester group journeyed through Kansas City into Iowa over the weekend of November 4 for a series of entertainments and represented the El Dorado People -to - People chapter at the Mineral Water Bowl Football Classic in Excelsior Springs, Missouri, the weekend following Thanksgiving . The second semester group has continued to provide entertainment for many occasions, including a special program at Tabor College at Hillsboro. It has constantly added to its repertoire of literary selections and plans to make a tour of perfor- mances following the close of the school year. Glenda, a product of El Dorado schools, has been a busy student at the junior college. She has been a member of the Juco Voices for three semesters, making the tour with the group last spring. She served as a student director of the school play, The Mouse Trap, and was initiated into Delta Psi Omega, hon- orary junior college drama society. She was selected chairman to the newly-organized college chapter of People-to-People and has served as president of the Methodist Student Movement at the Methodist Church. An ardent sports enthusiast, Glenda has also been one of the loyal cheerleaders for both the football and basketball seasons . Her chosen career lies in the field of speech and dramatics. Oil Day The fiftieth anniversary of the discovery of oil in Butler County was observed on March 26 with what was termed one of the most impressive parades in the history of the county. The El Dorado Chamber of Commerce gave the students at the college the privilege of selecting the Oil Queen who reigned over the festivities of the day. Loretta Huber, freshman, was selected queen and rode on the queen ' s float in the parade. She was also guest of honor at the banquet in the evening. Members of the faculty honored these students with a dinner on May 12. The school ' s colors, gold and purple, were featured in the table flowers. The most ambitious undertaking was the presentation of The Holy City by Alfred R. Gaul. Although sponsored by the music department, the oratorio became a significant success with the addition of musicians from all parts of Butler County. Over one hundred persons joined in the Palm Sunday production on April 11. The annual spring tour on May 4 and 6 included concerts at Augusta, Rosalia, Douglass, Rose Hill, and Circle High Schools .
