Remembering significant events of the first thirty-five years at El Dorado Junior College has been made possible largely through the able assistance of Lester W. Nixon retiring speech and English instructor, who has been a member of the college faculty since September of 1929 . His devotion to the school, his personal recollections, and his continued interest in those students who have attended EJC have greatly helped this year ' s Grizzly Growl staff to record the activities and achieve- ments of our school ' s - history. As Mr. Nixon has re- called for us many of the events of the past, stu- dents also have done some remembering. Some in re- ferring to an appreciation of literature that began in his American literature classes, have frequently expressed the desire to listen once again to his reading of some particularly favorite selection. Others have mentioned the many artistic displays of his excellent collection of art prints . Still others have remembered his skillful arrangements of flowers, bottles, candles, and other items which have added color and variety to the sometimes monotonous task of securing an education. Perhaps the best remembered feature of Mr. Nixon ' s classroom has been his numerous books and magazines which have aroused the intellectual curiosity of his students and have challenged them to find a scholarly satisfaction in pursuing an education through the printed word . We remember our friend and instructor with sincere appreciation. The heritage that he leaves us will continue to enrich our lives, for Gladly did he learn and gladly teach. LESTER W. NIXON, 1962 8
