The purpose of this religious association for college men and women is to unite in the desire to realize full and creative life through a growing knowledge of God, to determine to have a part in making this life possible for all people, and in this task, to seek to understand Jesus and to fol- low Him. At the beginning of the year the JCY wrote and adopted a constitution, elected officers, and or- ganized the following committees: Finance, Rec- reation, Membership, and Publicity. In addition, the association established these commissions: World Service, Christian Heritage, Personal Growth, and Social Responsibility. Later the JCY was introduced to the students, after which a membership drive was held. Food, money, and clothing were given by the JCi r to several needy families during Thanksgiving and Christmas. Be- sides the service projects, regular meetings and occasional parties are a major part of the JCY. Once again the annual staff offers this toast: Here ' s a Hearty Welcome! The Grizzlies opened the season at Fort Scott, where the Greyhounds took a heart- breaker from the Grizzlies. After downing Parsons in a rain-soaked game, the Bruins ran out of gas. Dodge City, Coffeyville, Arkansas City, and Independence downed them on successive weeks. Then the rains came again, and the Grizzlies squeaked by Garden City in a game marked by intermittent showers. The flu bug caused the Hutchinson game to be canceled. The season closed with Pratt downing the Bruins in the Homecoming game. ■' ■' j . battle Opp. Juco Fort Scott 7 6 Parsons 6 Dodge City 26 6 Coffeyville 18 7 Arkansas City 40 Independence 31 Garden City 12 13 Pratt 21 19 : : «V« . . - Football Royalty (left to right): Cliff DeLano and Janet Pollock, Queen Vicki West and Captain Rupert Hartshorn, Eleanor Wentling and Mike Jenkins. «• - ELEANOR WENTLING FOOTBALL QUEEN VICKI WEST heie ' a to beauty, Don Parry Ernie Hawkins Larry Hromek caqena After a slow start, the Grizzlies re- covered to have a so-so season. Late in the year, the Grizzlies snapped out of a losing streak to take four straight games on the road, and climb into a tie for fourth place in the league standings. Coach Brumback ' s charges showed lots of fight, and had commendable team play as shown by the fact that no individual dominated the scoring. Ernie Hawkins led the Grizzlies with a 16-point average, and Don Berlin followed closely with a 14-point-per-game average.
