Football Coach SMITH SPEAKER FARRAR WEST FATOUT SCOTT TURNER HIGGINS COOPER Coach THOMAS GUINTY GARCIA RYAN GOOD KISER POFFENBARGER IVES KITCH MOSS TARRANT BENSON THOMPSON ROGERS ' The El Dorado Junior College Football team started the season with a victory over the powerful Chilocco Indians, but such success did not continue. According to the old adage A good beginning foreshadows a bad ending . This was the case of the 1930 season. At the beginning of the season the backfield of the Grizzly squad was considered to be one of the fastest in the Kansas Junior College Conference and the line was thought to have no equal. But Fate took a hand. Early season injuries and loss of squad members due to the lack of necessary grades played havoc with the Grizzly line-up. Here, as in many other college and high schools, day time football was discarded. An experiment in the way of night football was tried this past season. This innovation proved successful in El Dorado. Crowds larger than ever before seemed to enjoy night football as much or more than the ordinary type. The foolball team this year was managed by entirely new system than that of former years. Head Coach Smith and his assistant, Coach Thomas, directed the team jointly. This is the first year that the college has had two coaches to direct the athletic activities. Although many members of the 1930 team will be lost by graduation there will be many to succeed them, and hopes for a powerful eleven for the season 1931 are very bright.

Basketball KELLOGG Coach THOMAS GUINTY PORTER GRAHAM WEST LEWELLEN TOMPKINS Trainer ANGLE TARRANT GARCIA JAMES NEUMANN The El Dorado Junior College Basketball team for the year of 1930-31 had one of the best seasons since the college was organized. While El Dorado ' s record in the Kansas Junior College Conference was not so good, its record for the entire season was worthy of mention. In the Junior College Tournament which was held at Baldwin City, Kansas, E! Dorado placed third, This was a very good showing, for the reason that the strongest teams in the conference and strong teams from out of the state were also entered. Much of the credit for this year ' s fine showing is due to the coaching of Coach Thomas. While this is Mr. Thomas ' s first year in college competition, he has shown that he knows how to handle a team and next year he should have a winning group.
