Mr. Carmel Colofranson Mrs. Jane Bowers Guidance As guidance counselors we help the students to make decisions about their courses, their careers, and their plans for further education. We are concerned about the personal problems that a student may have at home or in school that may prevent her, or him. from making the most of their school days. We are available to talk things over — with students and teachers; to confer with parents; to write recommendations; to send information to colleges or employers, and to refer students to other appropriate helpers such as the speech therapist, school psychologist or school social worker. We are part of the total educational services offered to each high school student to aid his or her growth into an adult member of our society. In summary, we are counselors because we care about students and their education.

The Study of Man by Men. . . The Humanities, the wings of man’s imagination, help us to respond creatively to life’s challenges, for without creativity there is no life. The Humanities reveal the uniqueness of the individual, the meaning of our humanity, and the relationship of the world around us. Social Studies investigates . . . relationships of society’s members. Our discipline prepares the individual to face the challenges of the future using knowledge of the past. . .the existence of democrary is entirely dependent upon participation . . . by an informed electorate . . . We nope that the study of American History will foster sufficient interest in the activities of our government so that our students may become part of that informed group who will present democracy through their constructive participation. Science The enrichment of the students’ lives by Environmental Science will occur by the understanding of how the environment works, and how large an influence we are in upsetting the balance of nature. Physics enriches our lives by promoting a better understanding of our physical world of motion, energy, electricity, sound, light, and atomic energy. Electronics enriches our life by helping us understand electrical principles and measurements so that we can appreciate the technology of the world we live in. The student who is acquainted with earth science should be better able in the future to discuss and to vote intelligently on issues related to earth processes and materials. Issues such as air and water pollution, desalinization of ocean water, testing of nuclear devices, weather control, exploration of space, and use of natural resources will remain entwined in politics. Biology is the study of living things and as such, imparts to the students a better understanding of themselves as well as the world around them. This understanding may be used to explain daily occurrences or may open the doors to biologically oriented careers. Either way, science helps students learn how to question and approach problems in an attempt to solve them. This alone is beneficial to all. Hopefully a student will develop a relationship with his or her environment that will be helpful to them in their adult life . . .
