1978 Dedicatee. A teacher often gives more: more energy, more concern, more humor, more personal attention and involvement, more guidance, and more time than the basic job that teaching requires. Few however, have exceeded the accomplishments and dedication of one outstanding individual. Over the years our dedicatee has earned a highly respected reputation in our school, community, and state as a teacher, a coach, and a leader in innovative programs. A graduate of Burlington High School, Class of 1942. this teacher joined the U.S. Navy in 1943 and after three years was honorably discharged. The educational background of this individual includes: a Bachelor’s Degree from Carthage College in Illinois and Graduate work at Temple and Rutgers Universities. In 1948 his teaching career began in the Burlington Township Schools as a 7th and 8th grade teacher of arithmetic and science. In 1954 the Burlington City Schools obtained this teacher on their staff in the High School science department. Two years later he became a 9th grade math teacher at the new Junior High School. In 1967, he was made Vice-Principal of the High School, a position which he still holds. As a basketball coach, he has led Burlington City teams to set an impressive record. In 18 seasons, spanning a period of years from 1953 to 1971. Burlington City won a total of 304 games, and captured or shared in 17 league or division titles. Further, under his direction the Blue Devils stacked up a 25-0 record in the 1965-1966 season leading them.to the State Championship title. This dedicated leader has not only been a great asset to the student body, and staff, but has also brought a feeling of security to many. Almost every student has come in contact with this man for one reason or another. The reasons range from attendance and lateness, to assisting students in job opportunities. He also carries his dedication to the state level as a member of the New Jersey Governor’s State Committee on Children and Youth. Perhaps the most important aspect of this man's job is how he has become somewhat of a personal guidance counselor and friend to many. In recognition of these many outstanding contributions, we the Class of 1978 dedicate our Heirloom to Mr. William Burr. Thank you for caring so very much. 18
