STUDENT SERVICES The Special Education Department attempts to educate those students whose needs cannot be met by the regular classes. The department tries to promote general understanding between its students and the rest of the school. To develop expertise in many areas, the students provide various services for the school community. The Joseph W. Howe Library is a learning resource center in which students can draw upon literary media as well as audio-visual aides. The primary goal of the library is to provide students with a total learning experience that is supplemental to the classroom. The basic objective is to meet the individual needs and interests of the students. Mr. Ahearn provides audio-visual materials for the Burlington school system. He is responsible for scheduling movies and teaching students how to operate different types of equipment. His students also provide the lighting effects for the school plays. The school nurse is a very important member of the staff. Her patient concern about the health and well being of the staff and student body is vital to the educational process. Mr. John Parkes — Special Education Mrs. Helen Walton — Library Aide Miss Susan Sullivan — Special Education Miss Pauline Zaugra — School Nurse Mrs. Anne Parkes — Special Education Mr. Herbert Nelson — Librarian Mr. Joseph Ahearn — 25 Audio-Visual Aides

MUSIC AND ART The Burlington City High School Art Department strives to serve its student body through artistic offerings in the various art media. The students adventure through numerous projects, working at their own individual speed and interest. The instructor coaches and encourages the students to expand their artistic and aesthetic senses. The Music Department focuses its attention on technique and skill development. Under the direction of Mr. Frank Bonanno and Mr. Dawson McElwee, many innovations have come about. The department now boasts of an award winning Marching Band, an orchestra, a Stage Band and many new ensemble groups. Never before has there been a time when man so needed the arts to enable him to live a more creative and fruitful life. Therefore the Music and Art Department strives, mainly, to teach students an appreciation and working knowledge of cre- ative artistry.
