1 For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven: 2 a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted; 3 a time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; 4 a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; 5 a time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; 6 a time to seek, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away; 7 a time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak; 8 a time to love, and a time to hate; a time for war, and a time for peace. Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 HEIRLOOM 1973 published by the Class of ’73 Burlington City High School Burlington, New Jersey The war in Viet Nam is being brought to an end. We the graduating class of Burlington City High School wish to share with you our thoughts and memories of this terrific year. — 1973 WHAT GOD HATH PROMISED God hath not promised Skies always blue, Flower-strewn pathways All our lives through; God hath not promised Sun without rain, Joy without sorrow, Peace without pain. But God hath promised Strength for the day, Rest for the labor, Light for the way, Grace for the trials, Help from above, Unfailing sympathy, Undying love. — Annie Johnson Built Together THere are. parts of a sY i.p which taKen by tVyc.mse.lves would sinK- The. engine would SiryK Tf e propel er would siryK. Besides being an able teacher in the Home Economics Department, she has been one of our class sponsors. In this position she has fulfilled her duties willingly and faithfully with concern for the welfare of our class. On many afternoons she could be seen cleaning up after our bake sales, making arrangements for our prom, or calling Fernwood to check on reservations for the senior class trip. No one could have been more understanding and eager to help us with our problems. And so, we the class of 1973, proudly and with deep gratitude dedicate this edition of the HEIRLOOM to Miss Janet Knickerbocker. 5 MR. Slagle 6 RAYMOND COSTELLO This great country of ours has been divided emotionally in many ways during the years you have been in high school. The fighting in Viet Nam and the drafting of young men for the armed forces were two controversial issues that caused much turmoil and suffering, not only physically but mentally as well. Many Americans were con- cerned and confused about the best solution to these prob- lems. But now the war is over, the draft is ended and the nation has an opportunity to again unite its people. You are graduating from high school at a most opportune time. You will be able to plan your future with a greater cer- tainty that you can carry out your plans in peaceful days. I hope and pray that part of your planning will be to continue your eduction — formally or informally, in school or on the job, throughout your life. Continuing education will enable you to take an active part in keeping the hard- won peace, providing a just society, and solving the com- plex problems of economics, environment, and health that Americans face today and in the immediate future. Congratulations to you upon achieving this educational goal, and my best wishes for your future happiness and success. Raymond A. Costello Principal WILLIAM BURR — Vice Principal . . WtiirrW ______ Patricia chatting with Denise Grycky, one of her sisters. Exchange Student, Patricia Chop (right) and one of her American sis- ters, Bonnie Branin. To the teachers and students of Burlington City High School: Pat and her sisters. An exciting and challenging year in the United States at Burlington City High School will be over for me; I would like to thank the teachers and students very much for their help, and the friendship and sup- port that they gave to me during the entire school year. I will never forget this great experience as an exchange student in Burlington. With my two families and many good friends, I have had an especially interesting time. I had a chance to learn a lot about the Ameri- can people, the American way of life, and American schools. I have been impressed by the school spirit that the students showed, and I enjoyed very much being involved in school work and activities. Patricia Chop Escorted by J.
