The greatest impact that Mr. Updike has on the seniors is his World Problems class. As head of the Social Studies Department, he plans the courses of studies followed by all BSHS students. Mr. Updike and Michako Komamura, an exchange student from Japan, discuss some of the advantages of the foreign student exchange program which is under the direction of our dedicatee. Under the experienced guidance of Mr. Updike, the Student Council's participation in the operation of the student activity program has expanded over the years. jBehicatum JranA JK. UpcfiAe We proudly dedicate the 1965 HEIRLOOM to Mr. Frank M. Updike, an individual who has manifested true interest in the student body of Burlington Senior High School. As head of the social studies department and sponsor of the Student Council, he has greatly con- tributed to our development as alert and responsible citizens. Mr. Updike has also been the key to the success of the foreign student exchange program in our high school. Exerting his influence on the class of 1965, Mr. Updike will be a treasured part of our memories of Burlington Senior High School.

The Senior Class is now the Graduating Class of 1965. We have reached a new milestone, but the challenge of the future is just ahead. Now is the time to reminisce. Will there be a bridge to the memories of the past? The HEIR- LOOM of 1965 will be our link to the years spent at Burlington Senior High School. It will represent a timeless record of the in- numerable experiences of the past. The halls of our school may be empty now, but the pages of our yearbook will fill them with cherished memories. We have attempted to recall these moments, and to capture them for each member of the class. This yearbook will be an heirloom to treasure throughout the future. jForeloorb ADMINISTRATION and FACULTY pages 11-30 SENIORS ............................ pages 31- 70 ACTIVITIES .............................. pages 71- 86 UNDERCLASSES ........................ pages 87- 96 SPORTS....................................pages 97-108 FEATURES.............................. pages 109-120 ADVERTISING ........................ pages 121-159 FINIS.................................... page 160 (liable of Contents 8

19K5 Metrlmmt V LINDA MOGEL ..................................... .... Editor-In-Chief The HEIRLOOM represents the history and treasured memories of the Class of '65. As editor-in-chief, I have endeavored to gather and store the experiences, fun, and accomplishments of three memorable years at Burlington Senior High School. In the future, the HEIR- LOOM will be the key to the past. ROGER TITONE .................................... Photography Editor Perhaps the most cherished heirlooms we can ever own are pictures of times past and friends long forgotten. It has been my pleasurable task this year to try to capture these moments as I think we should like to remember them in the long-distant future. BARBARA STILES ................................... Curriculum Editor Many of our lasting memories of BSHS will be of our teachers. Not only were they instrumental in providing us with a good educa- tion, but they sponsored us in many and varied activities. Our faculty and administration helped set the stage for the memories we treasure today. DONALD BECKER ....................... Club and Organization Editor As editor of the Activities section, I have shown you not only the many clubs and their members, but their purpose in the fulfill- ment of our school life. Our club activities and projects have given us many friends and experiences we will never forget. DONALD KETELS ....................................... Sports Editor What can be more of an heirloom than the memory of the winning records compiled by our teams? The thrill of victory remains in the memory eternally. The sports section attempts to enshrine these memories in pictures and print. The 1965 HEIRLOOM will return you to the stands to relive our greatest victories. ELAINE KYLE ............................................ Art Editor As Art Editor of the 1965 yearbook, my most important contribu- tions were to originate the theme, develop it through artwork, work with the section editors by helping them with ideas for lay-out, and design the cover of the 1965 yearbook. It was a truly coopera- tive and memorable venture. JANICE HAYDEN .................................... Business Manager Without the conscientious efforts of the members of the Business Staff, whose responsibility it was mine to direct, this 1965 HEIR- LOOM would not be the treasure chest of memories the Editorial Staff made it. The class owes thanks to those whose efforts resulted in a financial success—a memorable event. KAREN LOUGH ............................................ Senior Editor As we slowly page through our 1965 HEIRLOOM and reminisce, what better place is there to recall our past years than the Senior section? Through this section we can again visualize the acquain- tances whom we may not have seen since graduation. These friends now scattered throughout the country can be brought together once more through our Senior section. CAROL LAZZAROTTI --------------------------------- Underclasses Editor When we look back on our days at BSHS, we will remember and cherish the cooperativeness and congeniality of both the sophomore and junior classes, remembering we were once in the same educa- tional boat. Their willingness to support our class activities will take its place among our memories of days gone by. GLENNDA PAYNE --------------------------------------- Features Editor The Prom, Junior-Senior Party, Junior and Senior Plays, and the American Field Service Program at BSHS have provided us with unforgettable experiences. These occasions we will treasure for years to come, since the yearbook is our treasure chest for storing them. The Editorial Staff of the 1965 HEIR- LOOM consists of ten chosen sen- iors. Only nine are pictured here. Roger Titone is taking the picture. Left to right are: Janice Hayden, Linda Mogel; second row, Karen Lough, Carol Lazzarotti, Barbara Stiles; back row, Donald Becker, Elaine Kyle, Glennda Payne, and Donald Ketels.
