Formal education for the majority of us is completed: we pause hrielly to view our development and progress. These four years at Burlington High School have heen happy and exciting ones. We have learned to live our hest each day. As freshmen we were led gently along the paths of learning a step at a time. Now, as graduates, we realize how much there still is to discover. Many of us will go on to college: others will talce their place in the world immediately. Whatever our destiny may he, our learning will not stop. Greater achievements and accomplishments are ahead. We resemhle our city in some respects. It is considered fairly modern and up-to-date, hut the joh does not end there. it continues to thrive and improve, as we must. in former days, the City Fathers must have viewed Burlington and thought of it as having reached the pealc. Today it they could see the same city with its fine schools, husiness districts, and crowded streets, they would he amazed. Our generation will also hehold wonders. Let us malce the most of them as good citizens, leading our community on to greater attainment. May this hoolc serve as a door to the past for the Class of 1952. Vvhen we wish to talce a journey haclc in memory to these four years, we can open this hoolc. see the faces of our classmates. and recall the prospering city of Burlington. We are casting our lot in what we thinlc is a trouhled and confused world. We must. however, rememher that every generation faced problems. Whether we he warned of peril hy radar or Paul Revere. let us hope that we will he men and women enough to meet the world as we find it. 4 izbecbca lion NVQ- ol lilo Class of '52 lain- clislincl plc-asurv in fic-ciicaling llmis issue- ol Ilif- iivirloom lo a pvrson wlio, in our opinion, lnas conlrilxulecl immvnsc-ly lo our suvvcss in llw past four years, lxlr. We, lilce our colonial forefathers, have used our heritage to the utmost good of the Alma Mater. We. too, witnessed and tool: part in the revision of our constitution with serious and lahorious worlc. We have struggled and survived through the worst to achieve the hest. Our wagon wheels have rolled over rough territory, presenting challenges which refused to he ignored. Sometimes we faltered in our path. laclcing the courage of former protagonists. hut most of the time we have picked ourselves up from roclcy ground and stormed doggedly through even though our lcnees did hleed a hit on the way. Many of us failed many times: then with the stuhhorn persistence which has heen bred into us we turned at the right time to find even greater success. Some did not reach notable heights of achievement nor touch the quiet depths of great knowledge, hut we all fthe extrovert, the introvert, and the amhivertj donated logs to the cabin as did our colonial forefathers. ln comparable lahor we cast our mold for the future. What- ever we have heen, we shall he, only bigger. Four years ago we came here shy, cautious freshmen, yet eager and willing to hecome coclcy sophomores, then to reach the prestige of juniors, leaving behind that inferiority complex of underclassmen. Suddenly we are seniors. All too soon do we realize that we must leave the comfort and protection of our log cabin and scrutinize the past willfully to scan the great plains of opportunity. Too soon do we realize that all of this has heen ours in a way that we shall never have again. We fought hard. We played hard. We lived hard. You will find traces of it in everything we did. Remember the victorious games, the glory in our spirit even when we lost? The charity in our hearts when we gave? The pride of our Colors and the fidelity with which we upheld them? The gaiety of our dances? Our faith, our honor-yes. here you will find traces . . . Now all is left to you, who follow in our steps. We have blazed the many and various trails for you, have opened them wider as those hefore us have done for us, and as you will do for those loehind you. May you, fellow students, relive what we have so gloriously experienced. Graduation talces us haclc hrielly to reminisce over all these moments so that we. not until now, fully realize the tenderness, the happiness, the heartlorealc of it all. So let us linger a hit, for soon we must go. 31 'MJAOQ WA., IBliS'l' II X JKINC1 If-ii In Rigid: Rnymonci D' Xggoslino.
