- - 1- .- -----.- This season practice started in the first week of August where the girls were runn- ing two to three miles a day. Then as weeks passed, they were running four to six miles finally towards the end of the season, they ran six to eight miles a day. Running is not the only kind of practice they had, they also had weight lifting every other day. In Cross-Country the team scores their points on a one to ten basis, where one is the best and ten is the worst. Mr. Alsup, the coach of the team said, "Despite the colds and injuries to some of the team- mates, the team did extremely well. Next yearl am hoping for an even better team." This year something new happened. The team had one of their meets here at school which was the first for them. The team is hoping that this will be a new tradi- tion. - 762 This season one of the new changes brought about in gymnastics was the mor- ning practice schedule which started at 7:00 am. When asked how this affected her academically, Senior Rosa Ortega replied, "lt was hard at the beginning, because at times Ihad a difficult time get- ting all my homework done, going to night school, and be there the next morning. " The team had eight regular meets before the city meet. Overall, they predicted they would place in the top Manager loanna Grizzard takes a break after a hard workout, lunior LuNell Wessling gracefully displays her pose. Senior Mary Garrett practices on the balance beam. Senior loanna Grizzard points out her weaknesses. Seniors Mary Garrett and Heather Ludgewait demonstrate their styles. three. When asked how she felt about this year's team, Miss Esparza commented, "This yearl was very optimistic, the team would do well and excel in their events. I had three returning lettermen Rosa Ortega, Kristy Lane, Mary Garrett, and a new member Martha Ramirez, in varsity. The squad improved and looked forward toward city competition. As for lunior Var- sity, they are a young group that shows a lot of promise and enthusiasm. " - N 1
