This year's junior varsity team was made
up of nine players all of them sophomores,
The team was coached by Pete Lewenski,
who was also assistant coach to varsity.
Coach Lewenski taught these young
players all of the tricks of the trade, prepar-
ing them for varsity basketball in their
future high school years. Coach Lewenski
felt the team did as good as expected for
their experience and felt they will be in
good shape by the time they make the var-
sity level. Part of the training involved was
practicing from 2:30 to 5:30 in the after-
noon and on weekends and 8:00 to 7 1:00
in the morning on weekends. This took
much of the boys' extra time, requiring
dedication from the players to keep up
with their vigorous schedule.
The boys' schedule started in November
and ended in February which included
district and non-district games and tour-
naments. They attended three tour-
naments and played seven non-district
games. Their district opener was against
Bowie and finished the season with a game

The girls' basketball team kept up their
tradition by playing extremely well all
Ms. Smith, the coach of the girls' yarsity
team, has been coaching here for two
years now and she had this to say, "I am
very proud of the girls, they did extremely
well all year long. They practiced strong
and stayed that way all season. lhope that
my returning girls will do as well as they did
this year, and I wish all the luck to the girls
who will not be returning. "
The girls started to get together during
the summer, to play a few games of
ln September the girls started to get into
shape by going swimming at Hawkins Pool.
There they would swim a few laps and do
some exercises in the pool. They also ran a
mile for about a month and a half.
