Barbers Appreciate Rule Change To the relief of many Burgesites, the new school year was put off by snow. Three holi- days because of inclement weather, all in the first week back to school, were celebrated with students not even beginning to worry about upcoming exams. After finals came another hurdle as boys faced another change in the ups and downs of the dress code controversy. To the dismay of many students, the November court deci- sion allowing freedom of length in hair was stalled as the school board appealed to the district courts and was granted an in- junction. Hair which had been growing since Thanksgiving faced a barbership deadline of February 2. On the lighter side girls had their chances in January to ask out their favorite guy as the Student Council sponsored Twirp Week, re- quiring the woman to foot the date bills. Eddie Saenz was elected Twirp king and punished Twirp offenders at a week's end dance. The tables were sweetly turned three weeks later as paper hearts, candy and sweet messages marked Valentine's Day. - : -args-.2 I qw 'll-an. if Gilda Rosas cuts Jim McGuirk's hair in an effort to conform to the change t f' 9? aswell' With the beginning of December Christmas seemed iust around the cor- ner. Three weeks stood betwen Burgesites and freedom. The weeks fled by, show- ing astonishing rapidity with almost all of the students involved in some type of activity or another. Different depart- ments worked to put together a Christ- mas assembly with the choir, band, or- chestra and speech students performing. Orchesis danced two Christmas programs for Cielo Vista Elementary School and for St. Paul's Methodist Church. As usual seniors collected can of food for the San Juan Orphanage the last day of school in 1970. Students eagerly awaited a new and better year. gg i , c . .s - .ta, Qi. y 'ti K -Q 5 I 2 2 .sls t I NJH5 member, Anita Gandy arranges lumingrigs for Burges Mustang fools Burges students with the annual lighting of Burges on Christmas Eye. this clever disguise at Christmas. 23
