'HW The delegates to Boys and Gurls State were sponsored by the Amerucan Leguon the Amerucan Leguon Auxuluary the Jumor Woman s Club the Flag ler Beach Womans Club the ldlewood Club and the Country Club Hugh school senuors from all parts of Floruda met un Tallahassee to conduct a facsumule of the cuty county and state governments of Floruda Boys State was held June 21 27 Gurls State July 'll 'I7 The students who partucupated were chosen for out standung leadershup abuluty character and scholar shup un theur respectuve schools BOYS GIRLS STATE 19 5 9 Robert Cook Judy Lewus JoAnn Morrus Davud Shuelds The tensuon of campaugnung was relueved on Wednesday nught by Stunt Nught On thus nught each cuty presented a stunt or skut Several talented unduvuduals dud separate acts for the entertaunment of the enture cutuzenshup Our governor Leroy Colluns was tourung Russua but we met most of hus cabunet members and the uudges of the State Supreme Court The gurls were Call Colluns the daughter of Governor Colluns We had a very enloyable week met many very unterestung people and learned a great deal about the government of our state SUMMER SCIENCE CAMP Muke Parker was one of the 25 hugh school students who spent eught weeks studyung attendung lectures and workung un laboratorues at the Scuence Camp last summer These students were far from eggheads The 21 ooys and 4 gurls ranged un actuvutues from a furst strung guard on the Pensacola football team to the presudent of the student councul at a large Muamu School Every mornung Muke attended a lecture by some promunent scuentust One of the lectures was guven by Dr Baxter who us now teachung chemustry on NBCS Contunental Classroom After lunch Muke worked un a laboratory of the Nuclear Enguneerung Department wuth 6 graduate students On weekends fueld trups were taken to such places as Maruneland and Sulver Sprungs Sunce a trup to Cape Canaveral was not possuble Colonel Work man flew to Gaunesvulle and showed the group several umpressuve fulms The recreatuon for the group consusted of tennus basketball swummung and ofcourse chess Page Fufty Sux Q F we W Q 1 A f x xl '- J I : , X u 2, ,K P s 'L I I J ll 'fa ' - l it . , . , . . . . . . , . ,, . ,, . . . . . . , , ' ' I I - Q - Q . . a I I I . n a v . . .
