Text from Pages 1 - 204 of the 1973 volume:

N 1 " beginnings, academics, seniors, happenings, athletics, for some, becoming individual has been a struggle for others the struggle will continue — never ending. the attempt to find yourself must come from within. there are those among us who possess the rare quality to display a unique talent, in search of themselves, these people will benefit from their ability, but, society also benefits. each of us must recognize our own abilities before we can share them with others. friendships at Bulkeley will not be forgotten. when we look back besides remembering our friends we will remember, donut breaks at Bess Eatons early lunches at various local grinder shops (all within five minutes of B.H.S.) and the arrival of our private McDonalds on Brainard Road. 10 1 other favorite spots for relaxation included, a private, backyard patio, the kienle room, front lawns of friendly neighbors, spacious parking facilities on Benton Street, and last, but not least, " sex-discriminatory smoking lounges.” 11 among those who have influenced us, are special friends, teachers, they spend their time attempting to gain our attention, many of them have. we are inspired to learn and prepared for life by those who care to reach us. since freshman year we have seen school become a place for communicating, our voices are no longer silent. a better, more relaxed atmosphere for learning is becoming predominent at Bulkeley. 13 each of our friends have given a part of themselves meaningful enough to affect us permanently. from Bulkeley and its family we have hopefully gained a set of values good enough to last a lifetime. Rejoice, Rejoice, we have no choice but — to carry on .. . Stephen Stills They Made It Happen . . 20 Anita K. Roche Dean Edward J. Kusek Frank P. Scelza Ted J. Perry B.H.S. We first came to BHS from our grammar schools — and what a change! For one, things were a lot more liberal and a lot more fun. There were new faces and activities. Who thought McDonald’s would be " our kind of place” and Bess Eaton’s a good spot for mid¬ morning snacks? BHS spirit was there when needed. South always brought the best out in us, but Hartford High and our place in the basketball tournament could do the same. We sure did a lor of funny things: we got lost on car rallies, got on our asses (jackasses that is), and lit our fires with sculptured candles. Of course there were dances, assemblies, rallies, Captain Bulkeley and Torch Nights. BHS suffered a face lift. Our " maple leaves” were cut down and our little babies (the portables) were bom. Fake I.D.’s are no longer necessary because the 18 year old legal age takes care of it all. We’re adults! P.S. Don’t forget, the time . . . Competing but once a year, the table tennis team, unshaken by the finality of an instant winning or losing season, prepared diligently for the big day: 177 Early mornings, roll out of bed and onto the balance beam. While most are turning off alarm clocks, Bulkeley’ fearless gymnasts mount their beams in preparation for their grueling competition. 1 180 Armed with determination, perseverance, and a sense of fair play, along with anticipation for what looked to be another winning year, Bulkeley’s Girls’ Basketball Team began their season. Stifled by the lack of a practice area, our female hoopsters temporarily overcame this difficulty and managed their first win over Manchester. 181 With the team’s welcomed success came the not so welcomed fM« - After suffering untimely injuries (crushing all hopes of a successful season) and struggling diligently to reaffirm their standing, the Bulkeley cagers managed to capture once again the City Series while finishing with a record of 5 wins and 6 losses.
