The CAREER DEVELOPMENT CEN- TER, a new phase of the Guidance Depart- ment, is located in rooms 95 and 96 on the mall directly across from administration building. For some time students, parents, staff mem- bers, and the general public indicated a need for additional career information. This year a new Career Development Cen- ter was realized to meet this need. Any stu- dent, parent or member of the taxpaying public is welcomed to make use of the infor- mation available in the Career Development Center. The hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Approximately 2,000 inquires had been sent to business, industry, college, universities, professional organizations, government agencies and labor organizations for latest up-to-date authentic career planning infor- mation. In addition, the guidance staff select- ed various other materials for use, and are available to help interpret material. All information is indexed and located on work tables in the center. Choosing a career can be a bewildering experience.. .OR it can be an exciting one, related Work Experience Director Mr. Le- land Albee. We believe the latter is possi- ble. Given the opportunity to explore the options that are available through written materials, audio-visual aids, films and per- sonal contact with knowledgeable people ideas are generated , Albee continued, When ideas are generated, things begin to happen. Each week the CDC has a career of the week. People from different areas of occupations come and talk with students about their jobs. The Coordinator, Mr. Albee, may be con- tacted in CDC. Work Experience is a place- ment service. Student, employer and school must meet the requirements set by state. Purpose of work experience is to get the guidance and educational knowledge of what goes on in the working world while still in high school. The reason a student wants to work is not that important. Albee feels the students need the opportunity to work in a variety of occu- pations. This year around 200 students en- rolled in work experience.
