Senior Award Winners Capture Diverse Honors Q Aft ' Judy Coryell and Buster Davis were honored as Girl and Boy of the First Quarter. Elected by Girls' League and Boys' Federation, respectively, this is the highest honor be- stowed on a senior. Among Judy's credits are Mascot and Contessa's Presidentg Buster has been active in many sports. Suzy Caporael is a winner in the Regional Scholastic Arts contest. She was honored with a Gold Key and Certifi- cate of Merit for a painting. Suzy was one of the few stu- dents in Southern California to be awarded this honor. On February 25, Suzy, her parents, and Mr. Akins, her art teacher, were invited guests at the Statler Hotel to receive her award. Judges are artists and educators who have an under- standing of art education at the secondary level. The contest was primarily to provide students with the opportunity to present work for viewing' and to compare their abilities with their contemporaries in the art field. .1 F 'X 1 J Girl and Boy of the Second Quarter awards went to Allyson Tuckfield and Ron Jacobs. Allyson has been active in many clubs and is ASB Director of Publications, and Page 1 Editor of the Buena Vista. Ron has served as Soph Class President. ASB Treasurer, and ASB President. if

S Members of 1966 Girls' and Boys' State were Janice Buck- ner and Tim Downey. Y California Girls' and Boys' State are sponsored by the American Legion and its auxiliary. Each year a junior boy and girl are chosen to go to the State conventions in Sacramento at the close of the school year. Members are chosen by a committee of administrators and teachers on the basis of scholarship, citizenship, character, leadership, sportsmanship, and physical fitness, The girls and boys are organized into groups of about twenty-five, called cities , into counties, and finally into one large group, the K'state. They learn by doing-by governing themselves they learn the structure and functions of a demo- cratic government. Being a member is a great honor, and a great opportunity to learn and make lifelong friendships. A Victorious Seniors Earn Special Avvardsg Cap Triumphant High School Life with Honors 3 Senior girls vote for the outstanding citizen among them. This year Mariette Schmidt earned the DAR Citizenship Award. Her good citizen- ship is an achievement to be proud of, and will make her a fine American adult. All senior girls have an opportunity to take a test that determines Betty Crocker Homemaker of Tomorrow. This year, the highest score was made by Janice Buckner. Her score is sent to Sacramento, and she is eligible to become Cali- fornia's, then the nation's outstanding homemaker. Sl!f?lJl!A r at

Not shown here is the ensuing food fight which took place just seconds after this placid scene was shot. You were almost there. 4 ' -ef ':.. Caught in a candid shot, senior girls reflect the casual at- mosphere of lunch-time. Senior girls hold forth with good food, good conversation, and good times, an integral part of the day's schedule.
