Board Philosophy Sets District Education Goals ,qiq Y X! it Overseeing' the total Ventura Unified School District opera- tion, as well as, working with the administrative leader- ship of District Superintendent Dr. Patrick 0. Rooney are General Statement The Board of Education of the Ventura Unified School District believes in providing the highest quality of education for the children, youth and adult citizens of our community. We believe that the purpose of the public schools is two-fold: C13 to develop the individual to the limits of his abil- ities for a productive and meaningful life in an ever-changing Worldg and C23 through excellence in education for all, to assure that our democratic government and society will survive and prosper. We believe that the end product of the educative process should be an adult citizen capable of taking his place in society, an adult who is edu- cated in the finest sense of the word, regardless of the number of years of formal education he ultimately attains. He should be able to make a place for himself in the Vocational Worldg he should be informed and concerned about com- 160 ,.4 Anas.. board members QSEATEDJ Mrs. Betty Love, President James E. Furthermore, We believe that such an adult citi- zen should look on the search for knowledge as a lifelong process, and on books and educational institutions as friendly instruments to assist him in his search. Therefore, we believe that formal education should be a stimulating and satisfy- ing experience for each individual, and that ed- ucation should not end With graduation but should continue throughout one's adult life.
