Buenafs First CIF Champion-Joe Balasco mf -an-ij: 1 Y L Y V , V W r Q H.. ,. 7 , Sprinter Joe Balasco grabs baton from Robert Nelson in a 440 yards. Joe Balasco was the first CIF Champion in Buena's history, setting new and breaking old records wherever he participated. Undefeated in dual meets, Joe placed third in the Long Beach Invitational and at Mt. S.A.C. he took home the ninth place trophy. At the Fillmore Invitation, Joe garnered first, setting a new record of 9:46, the previous record being 9:54. At the CIF qualifying he ran 9:49, the old being 9:51 by Sellers of West Torrance. After setting a new course record in each dual meet, Joe Balasco took the highest honor of all: Champion of the AA division in CIF Finals. Holding the CIF Champion- ship Gold Medal, Joe accepts congratulations from his coach, Mr. Gordan Steward. N .. Y ' ' track meet against Oxnard.
