Varsity Grid Reflects Successful Channel Most Valuable Player awards of the 1966 foot- ball season went to Grant Webster, Most Valu- able Lineman, and Pat Fitzsimmons, Most Valu- able Back. Webster was outstanding both in offense and defensive action, earning his MVP award. Fitzsimmons achieved his honor by lead- ing the Channel League division with 1,001 yards rushed, setting a new school record in the effort. Team co-captains were Jim Ertman and Jeff Atteberry, right. Each contributed much to the team's first year efforts as Channel League contenders and its 4-2-1 record. The Varsity fin- ished the season in third place. Making their debut as Channel League con- tenders, the Bulldogs downed over-rated Oxnard 14-7. After being edged by Santa Barbara and Ventura 14-'7 and 13-7, the Varsity and Hue- neme fought to a '7-'7 tie when the second half stood scoreless. Holding the Simi Pioneers and Thousand Oaks Lancers scoreless, the Bulldogs defeated Simi 13-O and Thousand Oaks 25-O. Against Camarillo, a Buena record was set with halfback Pat Fitzsimmons rushing a total of 1,001 yards, leading the Channel League. In that game the final score was 12-O. A 4-2-1 combination put the varsity in third place for the 1966 season.
