Richard Nash became a smash comedy on Broadway and was recently made into a musical. The play offered the cast an exciting opportunity to portray real life char- acters in realistic situations. It had moments of tender drama and moments of high comedy. John Robinson studies a wanted poster in his sheriffs office as Bill Kendrick, the deputy, points to Sta.rbuck's offenses. Good-Year Hopes Typified Universal Consensusg September '66 After three months of well-used vacation, Buena opened its doors for the sixth year to new and old students. Bulldogs returned ready to start off a new, even more successful year of academic advancement, athletic upsets and numerous campus activities. Gerald Hoogesteyn and Yoko Katoaka, Buena's two foreign exchange students, were acquainted with the school. Gerald arrived from Venezuela and lives with the Robert MacEwan family. Yoko came from Japan, and has taken residency with her American foster family, the Millers. Mr. Berbert and Mr. Jones are welcomed back to Buena's staff after a year's sabbatical leave. Five ASB officers spent a delightful weekend in Mount Pinos while attending the Ventura County Inter-School Council leadership camp. During their visit, the officers attended several meetings, and recreational activities were also provided. The football season opened with a game against San Marcos. Even though it ended in a loss for the Bulldogs - they picked up and had an overall good season, meanwhile San Marcos ran up an undefeated season until CIF playoffs. September Song was the title given to Buena's traditional welcome dance. This event took place after the Buena-Rio Mesa game, and featured the Organizers , a live band. Gerald Hoogesteyn and Yoko Katoaka were Buenafs newly- arrived foreign exchange students from Venezuela and Japan. The American Field Service, which brought them to this strange country, affords the opportunity for broad- ening' understandings between countries. H8 Diane Clower and Jo Ann Kittle prove to all Ventura County Buena's spirit excels all others. These two senior cheer- leaders ride down Main Street Fair Day, October 1966, representing the fine school they are proud of. October '66 October 6th brought the installment of the new sophomore officers at the first assembly of the school year. October 5th was the day for the FAIR, and also a holiday. The Fair Parade brought with it floats and clowns. Yoko and Gerald, exchange stu- dents, adorned Buena's float entry clad in their native costumes. October 1 8 brought College Night for seniors in which they received a talk and information on college entrance. October 18-19 enjoined the first PSAT tests and the annual Backwards Dance, Showboat , spon- sored by the Girls' League and the Social Board. To wind up the month was Dad's night with the football game against Ventura, Friday the 28th. Scholarship night was staged for the seniors on the night of October 27. Seniors were given information on how to apply for scholarships and were given some good suggestions as to ones to apply for. This informa- tion proved fruitful for many of the seniors later in the year.
