Dedicated members meet before school to rehearse the music that they will play at school assemblies, PTA meetings, and music festivals. The music Varies from purely classical works to modern show tunes, and mem- bers learn a great deal about music in the process of playing it. More accomplished musicians are given opportunities to play solos and duets in front of an audience, and they gain poise and ex- perience by doing so. The orchestrais first per- formance of the year was Back-to-School Night. Later it performed at the Christmas Program, some PTA Meetings, and the Spring Concert. Choir and orchestra Work in close cooperation to present the Christmas Assembly and evening Christmas Pro- gram. The choir sings Christmas music set to a story, the orchestra plays traditional carols, and the two groups join in a classical Christmas song. A shortened version of the program is presented to the students in assembly, then the complete program is presented in the evening. The high- light of the year is the Spring Concert, when the Band and Orchestra combine to present an eve- ning concert. At the end of the year awards are given to deserving orchestra members on the basis of ability and service. Orchestra awards are pre- sented at the Musician's Banquet, a pot-luck dinner.
