Members of the Spanish Club must have taken a number of required courses in Spanish, and must have a high degree of interest. The club's purpose is to stimulate interest in Spanish culture and language. Speakers give presentations and mem- bers are given many opportunities to learn. Through Japanese, Venezuelan Representatives ff Mr' Dear Friends, Looking back over this wonderful year, I have spent with you at Buena, I cannot stop thinking how fast the time flies! When I first got here on August 5, 1966, I was amazed to find myself in a town so pretty as Ventura. Almost from the beginning I felt that I belonged, because your city is so much like my own in Japan, with the sea on one side and the rising hills on the other. My family at home is composed of my father and mother, a younger sister, Hiroko, and a dog, Piko. We live in Nishin- omiya, which is famous for its Sake, a Japanese wine. My father works in Osaka, which is nearby, and my sister goes to a private high school. But here I had a great new family, the Hugh Millers. Daddy is a typical, good American hus- band, Jan an active, sweet mama, and Donna and Ron are my step sister and brother. I share a room with Donna, and it has been the neatest experience. Over in Japan, I went to a private high school for girls - Kobe College Senior High School-so coming to Buena was a great change for me. Here I have thoroughly enjoyed taking Humanitites and Speech, which are both new to me. I have had many new experiences since I came hereg things I had never seen or done before are now a part of my life forever. I have been surfing, visited a movie studio, tasted oranges right off the tree, eaten tacos and popcorn balls, and gone to dances. The memory of Christmas will never leave me. The greatest discovery I have found is that there is little difference among human beings, no matter what country they are from. I will be going home to Japan, but we have walked to- gether, and talked together, and I will never forget you. Sincerely, Dear Friends, This has been a wonderful year I wouldn't have wanted to miss for my life, including the hours of serious studying and the marvelous hours of just goofing off with so many new friends made in this corner of the world.This existence was unknown to me until I came here, but which I will always keep a warm place for in my heart, and has made of Ventura a brilliant point on my world map. I also hope that my stay here will leave Venezuela a place on your maps. Often I've been asked if the region where I live in Southern Venezuela is a wild place, and I had never considered it as such. The town is very similar to Ventura, but I do admit that, come to think of it, we've been hunting jaguars fthe cat, not the carl at three hours from my home byjeep. So maybe it is. For the past two years I've been going to school in Ca- racas, LaSalle School, and the system is not too different from here in the states. Our school year goes from Oct. 1 to the end of July, and we went to school six days a week until 1 lth grade. Our sports are rather disorganized, and contrary to what I find people here believe, baseball has been more popular in Venezuela than soccer, although now they are balanced I think. Once in our school, we started a football team fwe call it rugbyj which promptly ended with a broken jaw from the captain. My stay in the states has been very enriching, and I want to thank all those who gave me and others this happy time. Sincerely,
