There were many other, mostly social events during the year, but those which will remain with us for years to come were the choosing of the class col- ors cnd the motto. Junior class officers President--David Flannery Vice-President--Nancy White Secretary--Carol Baehr Treasurer ------- Bob Caldwell THE outstanding event of our Junior year was the Junior-Senior Reception, which was said to have been one of the most beautiful in many years. The theme was Stardust. The concession stand at the football games was operated successfully by the class to earn money for the project. Sophomore class officers President--Walter Griffin Vice-President--Susan Heckanhauer Secretary--Jo Ann Mutchler Treasurer ------- Fritz Roberts DURING the Sophomore year everyone waited excitedly for the Prom which was the first real formal dance for many of us. The choosing of our class rings was also quite a thrill for us that year. 21 Class Prophecy H ELLO, ladies and gentlemen. This is Frances Spiegel and my assistants, Rose Short and Joanne Judd, giving you a blow-by-blow description of the take-off of the first rocket to the moon today, February 3l, I964. The site of this historic occasion is the roof of B.H.S. The passengers are all the members of the class of 54 who will set up colonies on the moon to be named after many familiar earth cities and countries. Out of respect to the pioneer spirit of this class, the rocket was christened the Spirit of 54. As they come up the ramp, I'll tell you their names and their occupations, which they will continue on the moon. First, the man who built this rocket ship himself, Paul Witter, and the airline hostesses, Pat Ohler and June Patton get on board. On their days off, Pat and June collaborate on a practical powder puff. Pat's company grinds, tints, and perfumes the powder, June's company builds the puff around the powder. Next I see the first Pie-N-Ears of stratospheric travel arriving. Among them is George Beale, the first man on the moon to have controlling interest in all Moonshine. Having a steady iob in aviation, Gene Mol- lenkopf is the dog-catcher in No-Man's Land. Walter Griffin's mission into outer space is to be the first earth- ling to iudge the annual interplanetar beauty contest. The owner of the Crater City Airport, Bob Stauffer, op- erates a sky-writing service. He emplloys Halloween witches to erase his mistakes with their brooms. Bob Kalb, a peach fuzz shaver, will be Peach Stauffer's private barber. Jo Anne Mutchler, a former WAVE, has arrived. She is the publisher of the Esquire Calendars for women. With her are Suzanne Kacher and Margaret Uhl of Alaska. Suzanne sells ice cubes to the Eskimos for building igloos since she has learned to skate without breaking anything. Margaret, who is a famous X-ray technician from Nome, finds anything from whale bone corset stays to kayak keels in her patients. Speaking of the women's armed forces, here comes a WAC corporal, Ted Marquis, and the only five-star general in the WAC's, Dan Rife. Here comes Joan Holloway's limousine. She makes money making money belts in Fort Knox, Kentucky, and goes to Hawaii every year for an eleven-month vacation. A secretary, Susan Kehrer, is making the trip with her Susan has replaced the Bikini Beach suit's popularity with her new creation, the Miami Beach. Members of a famous television show that has not yet been organized are going. The name of the program, which will broadcast over Station MOON located in the Grizzly Building in the city of Green-Cheese-Burg, will be Carole Candel's Fashion Show, and the members are Carole Candel, the star, Beverly LaRue, a sing- ing model, Jeanne Nicholson, the director, and Bill Armstrong, a technical technician. Nancy Wiles portrays Blondie, and Nancy White has taken Ann Sothern's place as Private Secretary on this same station. Speaking of celebrities, here come nine members of the sports world who promise to be 9-gt of this world. Sonny Butterman, the Casey Stengel of outer space, is coach of the New Yor Yankees who will win the Univer- sal Series. The trainer-manager of the Cleveland Browns, John Himler, has had an undefeated season, so far. Of course, the season hasn't started et. Perhaps their combination mascot, waterboy, and assistant manager, Ron Yauisy will be their good luclk charm.d lncidentally, John intendsbtmraise this teaimhon his new dairy cpn- coction nown as a Koo - Smoot ie. Bu Armstrong is a co ege foot a coac , an is team wants to p ay in the Flour Bowl at the end of the season. Fritz Roberts has recently signed with the New Moon Giants as a mid- get. The former American ampassador tohlreland, Bill O'B:1'ierr1, iss refxerie il? bennbag Zaurnaments in northern Nova Scotia. Tom Smit is a so amongt ose present. In is ey- ay e ro e a recor s in t e cross-country pogo stick marathon. Since he retired, he fights Indians with Buffalo Bill for relaxation. Another sports star is Jerry Volkmer. former professional pitcher, who now manufactures brooms for umpires to sweep off home plate. Dick Rehm has realized his ambition to attend Vassar College, he referees the inter-collegiate sports. 22 Class Prophecy Here comes a group of the girls who expect to combine careers and homemaking. First is Julie Sullivan. She was a weatherwoman on Cape Hattaras. She has discontinued calling hurricanes by girls' names as has been done in the past, she calls them tor-matoes. Raising little prides and ioys is Joy Leathem's occupation. Marilyn Hollenbaugh sold silverware in China, but now she is developing a special spot remover for leoparcls only. The bridal consultant at New Niagara Falls, Betty Haldeman, ioins the ranks of those present. No water will go over this Niagara, iust meteor dust. Dyeing pets to match their owner's clothing will be the business of Virginia Stahl. Vonetta Snavely ran the Waldorf-Astoria out of business with her grill room which features a built-in dumb waiter manufactured by the Smart, Brains, and Geniuses, Incorporated. Lilly Ralph and Jim Denton are coming up the ramp talking shop, Lilly is a grease monkey in an automobile garage when she isn't busy tuning tonsils at the Met, and Jim's occupation is un-dentin' fenders, so that he can marry at 45 and retire at 46 a rich man. From Canada comes Myron Linn, manufacturer of sleeping bags which are sold under the brand name of Nap Sacks. His secretary, Dorothy Grau, has brought along plenty of office work to do, so business looks prosper- ous. George Metzger, the world-famous Certified Public Accountant and, so far, the company's best customer, will, among other things, keep an eye out for competitors. The other eye goes with him when he tests the pro- duct. From the University of Sulphur Springs, which is a special school for teachers, come Norge Seits, who spe- cializes in kindergarten teachers, Suzy Miller, head of the department of first grade teachers, Susan Heckenhauer, an instructor of second grade teachers, and Doris Beattie, who teaches physical education instructors. Two businessmen are approaching the ship now, evidently trying to sell each, other on their products. Mert Boyd is a wig salesman for Bigg's Wigs, Inc., whose catchy motto is Big Wigs use Bigg's Wigs, Bill Kennedy is the silent partner in the Kennedy's Kiddie Koops Korporation which guarantees its playpens to be escape-proof. Mert's secretary, Shirley Briggs, and Phyllis Burwell, who is to be private secretary to Admiral Jones, are close behind. They are going to test the effects of Aunt Sassafras's Sea-Sickness Soother on rocket ship travel. Someone is coming now who is struggling with three dozen musical instruments and an armload of suitcases. As he sets them down, I see that it is Jerry Kenefake. He started out as a hot combo leader at the Spanish Tav- ern. Later on, his footprints were immortalized in the plaster on the walls inside Grauman's Chinese Theater, because there wasn't any more room outside on the sidewalk. Not far behind is Bob Cotsamire. He is happy with his hobby of feeding Turkey to Hungary on China when it's Chile, and to prove it, he has brought along plenty of samples and his new invention, a knife, fork, and spoon all in one. Here come some more interplanetary travelers. Dave Flannery has realized his ambition to travel, he is a Scotland Yard detective, and his next challenging assignment is to head an expedition hunting for needles in haystacks. Jim Haag has come up in the world since he has received his promotion from camel tender to private in the Foreign Legion. The man who developed steering wheels for rickshaws, Frosty Rowe, is proud of his good iob. A successful and happy archaeologist in New South America will be Bob Snavely. He discovered long ago that the now extinct Moon-ites had devised a tinless tin can, and he will try to promote it in modern day indus- try. Two of the personnel of Macy's Department Store will go on the trip. They are Carolyne Sniff, who sells perfume, and Bo Rothhaar, the manager of the shipping room, who is experimenting with a new type of flying saucer, a floating cup. l see Jim Barciz is a blacksmith, of a sort, he shoes horseflies. Graham Riley, a cracker packer at New Niagara Falls, is with him. 23 Class Prophecy cof-me Janiece Rettig's iob is improving the new Biscuit Mix for New Brides, a boon to girls who can't even fry water. Beverly Neff is trying to talk her into a full page advertisement in the newspaper called M.0.0. N. lMany Opinions On Nothingl, because she is the advertising manager. Look at the salesmen comingl Jim Richards sells insurance to complaint de rtments in department stores. Carol Baehr is the head encyclo edia at the information desk in Grand Central Slfiztion. She works out her leave of absences as the chief salesgirll in the army-navy surplus store. Selling a special kind of aspirin called Atom- ic Pills to teachers during exam time is Bob Ehrensberger's iob. Tom Fox is expanding his family monopoly on popcorn sales from Cleveland Municipal Stadium through all the planets in the universe. As a sideline, he is instigating a new style in men's haircuts--bangs. We quote his reason: Bangs tend to reduce the high forehead of slightly bald men. However, for the men who are more than half bald, I have yet to find anything better than a wig . Uh-Ohl Don't sneeze or the whole ship will be quarantined for pillow-feathers-itis. That dignified group of girls you see approaching is the distinguished faculty of the Women's Medical College of Pennsylvania, and they are now experimenting with an antidote for moon-stroke. They are Wilma Steiger, Jo ce Taylor, Carol Schemel, Nlarlene Dull, and Rose Short who has finished helping me early, so that she would have plenty of time to board the ship. Here come two very imposing looking people. Bob Caldwell has good reason to look imposing. He is Pres- ident Eisenhower's personal dentist. The other is Ruth Keller who is going to the moon for the unveiling of the monument erected in her honor to be known thereafter as KelIer's Dam- LeRoy Benedict has changed his name to Thursday since he became Captain Friday's assistant. lDum-De- Dum-Dum.l On his days off he runs a fix-it shop on the Indianapolis Speedway. With him is Dick Weaver, a Navy man, who has an upholstery business in Davenport, Iowa. An unusual looking trio is approaching the ship now. In the lead is Bob Sponseller with one of his jet- powered sulkies that he intends to run in the national harness races at Yucca Flats. Next are Donna Haycook and Carol James who respectively supply Bob with Haycook's Hefty Harnesses and the asbestos horses for this sport, samples of which they are taking along. Paul Witter will have to stay within the speed limit on this trip to the moon, because Jerry Mowry and Jerome Wilson, who have been promoted to privates in the Skyway Patrol, will be on hand to see that he does. Four more businessmen ap ar on the scene. Fred Welge has been appointed to assume the role of official clock winder in Grand Centraligtation. Albert Stoltz is going to distribute important makes of foreign cars all over the universe. Bob Corfman drills holes in the green cheese that composes the moon, and sends samples to Earth via his model airplanes. Jack Keller is in the monkey business in the St. Louis Zoo--he teaches them to be elevator operators. , The last group of passengers are coming now, so Joanne Judd is going aboard to save me a seat. She is an assistant chop stick producer. Joyce Goff went with her, meanwhile still trying to back out frontwards. Jan Fowler who wants to be a traveling preacher, and Janet Shaffstall who is all set to run her advertising agency in Meteor City that will handle all the publicity for the Miss Moon-ite contests, get on the ship to- gether. Last of all, Peggy Rowland came running up. As she climbed on, I remembered that she is the first B.H.S. girls' football coach and that she raises little Wurms on the side. What do I do? Me write Chollie Chan stories for TV. As Confucius say, Chop-chop, Ling Foo, and Whoopeel Translated means, Mister Chan, You better run. 24 llastwillanil 2 inment. The Redmen turned Tiffin Columbian back in the' last minute of the game with a safety which gave them an 8-6 victory. The Redmen lost their first N. O. L. game to the hands of an inspired Norwalk club 7-0 before a capacity Dad's Night crowd. Bucyrus iourneyed to Galion on Oct. 2 to continue the Bucyrus-Galion feud and came home victors by a margin of 26-6, The Redmen presented the game ball to Coach Frantz's new-born son. 40 On Oct. 9 Bucyrus dropped a heart-breaker to a game Willard team 27-24. The Flashes came from behind in the last two minutes with two TD'S to down Bucyrus. A fast and powerful Upper Sandusky team showed Bucyrus its power by rolling over them 47-l4. The Red- men were not outplayed all the way, though, as they outscored the Rams in the last half 7-0. Shelby's speedy Whippets ran roughshod over B.H. S. scoring four TD'S while blanking our Redmen. The score was 28-0. A last-quarter rally by Bucyrus almost upset Bellevue's highly-favored braves. The locals undoubtedly ' played their best of the season but had to take a back seat to Bellevue 2l-19. The small but scrappy Crestline Bulldogs were subdued by the Redmen as they piled up their highest score since T948. Home-Coming Queen Miss Peggy Rowland and her lovely court saw the Redmen march off with a 39-I9 victory. Highly-ranked Defiance turned Bucyrus back to a tune of 2l-0 in the closing game of the season. This was the last game of high school ball for 15 seniors. Their record was not too impressive, but it could be seen in many games that they had the spirit and the courage to go all the way. Reserve Football Squad FIRST ROW: B. Carter, J. Winters, M. The Red- men started at a slow pace but ended the season winning six of their last seven games. ln the Northwestern Sectional Basketball Tournament at Marion, Bucyrus beat Upper Sandusky and then lost to Mansfield in the semi-finals. Glenn Butterman broke several records for Bucyrus in a single season. The 6-foot-l-in. center got a season's total of 356 points to surpass Dan Bumstead's previous record of 321 . Glenn was the second player in Bucyrus' basketball history to average more than 20 points per game. His average of 22.3 points per game was also the highest of any player in the school's history. The band marched at all the football games and had a pep band at all home basketball games. They gave several concerts during the year and went to Bellevue where they attended the Band Festival. They played alone and in thc- massed band. The highlights of the social year were the Band Formal and the Band Parents' Christmas party. The formal, which was held in December, was for Senior Band members, while the Band Parents' party was given by the parents for both Junior and Senior Band members. A Band Tag Day was held to collect money to put into a fund for new uniforms. Because of the united efforts of band members and parents, this also was successful. The organization sponsored a successful magazine drive. The goal of completing the piano fund for the purchase of a new piano for the school was reached. Next on the activity list was the selection of a homecoming gueen. Student Council took charge of her election from ten candidates along with super- vising the homecoming program at the football field. Among the many other activities in which the coun- cil was engaged included operating the popcorn stands at the basketball games, setting up a system for the election of cheerleaders each year, setting up dance and concession stand schedules for the various other clubs of B. H. S. , decorating the second floor corridors with a Christmas tree and other decorations, having a Christmas dinner-party, and maintaining a morning study hall before classes throughout the year. The council worked hard to co-operate with everyone who asked them to help out in various programs. For example, the council helped out during Education Week and has taken part in scheduling and produc- ing assemblies. The officers of Student Council were: Bob Stauffer, President, Susan Kehrer, Secretaryp John Ward, Treasurer. Our capable advisors were: Mr. Loman, Miss K. Meck, Miss Thompson. 76 .'.,5.g.g::g.,'4 .,.,gtg.-.,:1:3.,.-.g.y.,:g:5..g tg:-:g,g:g.g.g,.L.
