With a shrill cry it will swoop down, clutch its vic- tim in its powerfull talons and tear it to pieces with its short, hooked beak. It always captures its victim in open chase, they do not plunge for their prey, but pur- sue them in low, raking flight. They are able to dart between trees and through thickets, fol- lowing their frightened quarry however abruptly it may turn and avoiding obstacles in their path with amazing skill. In open coun- try their tlight consists of a few powerful strokes culuminating in long glides. They do not soar and circle but fly swiftly and directly to their goal. The team finished 4th in the tough Class A Central Division and qualified 7 wrestlers for the State Tournament held in Buckeye on February I0- 20. At State the team finished in 7th place out of 23 schools. The Ha wks had two 4th place finishers at State and one State Champion. The Hawks effort this year was led by Steve Ganley. Steve wrestled in the l32if weight class and had a season record of23-3-0. His overall career record was 63-24-3. This year, I5 of his 24 wins were by falls. He is now one of the top winningest wrestlers in BUHS wrestling history. He quali- fied for the State Tournament all of his four years in high school. The team finished the season with 32 wrestlers. The team will lose 7 wrestlers to graduation. It will be difficult to replace wrestlers such as Steve Ganley, Oscar Diaz and others, however. there will be some top notch prospects up from the undefeated .l. M Squad to go along with the 9 good returning lettermen. Next year the Hawks won't be too shabby, even in AA competition.
