DIV The Gunnery Department is comprised of the First, Second and Third Divisions consisting of Bos ' n Mates, Gunners Mates, Torpedomen, Fire Controlmen and Sonarmen. It was the job of the Bos ' n Mates to battle rust and corrosion and to be ready for any of the numerous special details that were called away at any hour of the day or night. Gunners Mates and Torpedomen spent many hours in keeping our weapons ready for action, and when the time came they teamed up with the Fire Control- men, who aim the guns, to make our ship ready for action at a moment ' s notice. And then there were the Sonarmen whose job it was to listen and to make sure that the waters we traveled were safe below. FRONT ROW, L. TO R.: McKinney, Prilchard, Smith, Tarr, Tipp, Yates, Ens. Barney, Cherry, Artis, Gano, Christiansen. MIDDLE ROW: Bartholomew, Meek, Braziel, Woods, Rios, Jones, Smith, Causey, Kirkland, Davis, lackson, Reese. BACK ROW: Killian, Tobar.
