CLASS PROPHECY As I sit here in my tent peering into my Crystal ball, a vision comes before me ofthe January 1951 class of John R. Buchtel high school. Ahl What's this I see? It's the year 1960, and Ruth Kerns, who has iust maae herdebut into society, is step- ping out of her diamond studded limousine, about to enterthe MaiesticTheatre. The play, The Human Mess written by that eminent author, James Shakespeare Schultz is being given tonight. Co-starring with Cynthia Cornell Lawrence is Dave Barrymoore Blank. Noticing several flashbulb explosions, I look to see who is taking pictures. It is none other than Dick McCreary, Times photographer. Near him is the famous theatre critic, Norma Messner, who is contemplating the success of the play. Coming down the aisle, I see that wonderful set de- signer for, The Human Mess, Robert Angelo Floreani . Following him to theirorchestro seats are the noted sports announcer Dick Stern Bazley, and that outstanding Olympic star, Richard Anderson. Now that the play is over, two of the stage crew hands, Jim Trithart, electrician, and Eugene Fredericks, cur- tain puller, are leaving to attend a party being held at the spacious fiftytwo room mansion of Esther Edus Ra- binowitz on Park Avenue . In the Ekus-Rabinowitz home, I see in one room those two famous racketeers, John The Greek Economou, and Ed, Babyface Conrad, playing poker against the onlyhobo to makea million dollars, Al, Money Simon. In another room, I see the famous producer Marilyn Frye, the only one of her kind, eagerly watching a show put on by Dick Friend's Stork Club entertainers. Bettie Adamson, who does a bubble dance with a transparent bubble, and Pat Rand Spring, famous for her fan dance, will be featured . The master ofceremonies is thatviva- cious comedienne, Shirlee Katanic. Also watching this spectacle are Eddie, Master Mind Kalail, and his own physician, Dr. Eugene Sawan, M. D. Dr. Sawan per- formed the operation that restored Eddie 's brain to normal Ialmostl. Eddie's mind cracked after he and his gang blew up Fort Knox to print their own type of money. Standing nearby is Grace Nightingale Chaff with her first aid kit. She thinks Eddie might collapse again, Ipoor girll. Diane Haberman, that incomparable school teacher, and Joyce Raynes, head secretary in the United Nations are comparing notes witha beautiful Powers model,Dawn Craycroft, about the play seen earlier this evening. At this moment, things are getting dim, as if a cur- tain is being brought down-ahl , yes-it is-bringing with it the end of a great and unforgettable evening . While in fumbling desperation, we surveyed the situation, We concluded that our plight to ease would be a year-long chore. Suddenly there came a ieering, as of someone gaily leering, Look, the Freshmenl someone howled, sneering through our home-room door. That was all , but then came more! How distinctly I remember February to December. 'Forty-seven was the first and worst of the succeeding four. lf we dared to make a blunder, Mr. Weber's voice would thunder, You're so small, it's little wonder! which would hurt us to the core. Pride upsurging, tears emerging, while each face our wishes wore . Oh, to be a Sophomorel Soon our hero-worship faded as The Kingdom we invaded. Freshmen humbleness we traded, Soph'more confidence we gained. As we girls discovered dating, every evening found us waiting For the call that meant our rating was secure. Else sorrow reigned . Life depending, same impending, while indiff'rence each one feigned. Adolescencel Freud explained. Then returned the full-day session, followed by morale depression. Just to give you an impression, here's an average Buchtel day: lYawni Good morning, Mr. Schneyer. Missed the bus. ooooa what a liarl Fell into some muck and mirel still another one might say. l fell sickl fan ancient trickl, so, can l be excused today? Honesty had gone astrayl Now that Senior Year is ending and our graduation pending, All our ways we would be mending, but we find it's much too late. So, in open meditation we present this supplication To the future generationg QMay they heed the words we statei. Modesty of Freshman year ls worth it's weight in gold. Honesty and hearts sincere Are priceless, we are told. Thoughts of wisdom, often panned Are jewels, very rare. Put them all together and You'll be a millionairel
