The first, the DD 131, distinguished herself during World War ll at ST. NAZAIRE by deliberately ramming and putting a German submarine base out of commission. The second, the DD-484, won eleven Battle Stars in the Pacific campaign and culminated her illustrious career by taking General Douglas MACARTHUR from YOKOHAMA to TOKYO BAY for the signing of the Japanese sur- render aboard the USS MISSOURI. We have a proud heritage to uphold and believe me . . . BUCHANAN and her crew can do it.
