ENGINEERING OFFICER LT. J.E. BOLAND EN GINEERI G DEPAR TME T The Engineering Department is responsible for the efficient operation, care, and maintenance of the ship's propulsion plant, auxiliary machinery and piping systems. In addition, the Engineering Department is responsible forflb the control of damage, C25 the operation and maintenance of electric generators and distribution systems, Q35 repair to the ship's hull, and C43 repairs to material and equipment of other departments when such repairs are beyond the capacity of other departments, but Within the capacity of the Engineering Department. The titles of the various Engineering Department ratings are as follows: Machinist's Mate QMMD, Engineman QENU, Ma- chinery Repairman QlVlRb, Boilerman CBTD, E- lectrician's Mate QEMB, Interior Communications Electrician QIC5, Shipfitter QSFB, and Damage Controlman QDCD.
