P. ' J.O. The mission of Public Information of the United States is to inform I Ik- public of tbe importance of seapower and understanding of the Navy ' s role today and in the Future. The mission of tbe Public Infor- mation Office of the BRYCE CANYON is not quite as big but in a small way the job it does adds to the Navy ' s vital program of keeping tbe public informed, by the Fleet Hometown News service. The Public Information Office of the BRYCE CANYON accomplished it ' s mission with one officer and one enlisted man writing the stories and sending them out to Navy and civilian press. Congressman Craig Hosmer noted in a letter to the Public Information officer of the outstanding achieve- ments in Public Relations that had been carried on by the BRYCE CANYON during its stay in WESTPAC. GOLD 1955 1969 Editor A.L. Phillips Advisor KNN. Waage ENS Our ships newspaper, The Call of the Canyon was and is published each Friday, and copies are eagerly awaited by all hands. Since freedom of the press was the theme of the paper, many complaints and gripes were expressed in its pages. Dom Clod, the Skipper ' s ficticious character was a humor- ous true-to-life story with a message to all. The sequences of this experienced character were read and enjoyed by everyone. •W4

Well done and good show, the congratulations came in. And the pure gold paint was removed from it ' s bin. An artist came forth, and in gold on the wings Painted our E with a few graceful swings. Commander Batcheller and Captain Steinmetz look on as High QM3, WIdman QM3 and Darnell FN paint the Gold E on the wing of the bridge.
