By Dennis Rhodes
To be a Viking basketball player, the first
step to make in the right direction is towards
dedication. Being a Viking makes me feel as
being part of a program which is known
throughout Texas. The off-season program is
where you make it or break it. The long hours
of hard work each and every day were really
worth all we accomplished this season. The
basketball program helps a person develop
talents and skills which are useful on the
court. Defensive and offensive tactics are
some of the many things taught, as well as
discipline. Most of all: togetherness, learning
how to play as a team, and get along well on
and off the court are important. Vikings
combine together to "gel', as one.

What makes the coach proud is a person
being able to give all he's got every time he
steps on the court in practice or games. Coach
always appreciated the good things a person
did, and for the bad things he tried to help
you to improve yourself as a person as well as
a player. Respect is also what a coach wants
out of his players. When a team wins,
everyone is happy. When a team loses,
everyone is disappointed. A true Viking will
always be proud and always keep his head
held high. A person can look back on a Viking
season, good or bad, and show no signs of
embarrassment. There is nothing I regret
about being a Viking basketball player
because being on two state championship
teams, having great teammates, and being A 6
part of a successful Viking program have
made the years very special to me.
