HISTORY OF THE CLASS OF '55 The class of '55 began in 1951 with the help of their class sponsors. Miss Walters and Mr. Orr. They chose their class officers: President Jackie DeLong, Vice President Kent Spears, Secretary Tom Graham, and Treasurer Norman Thornsby. In 1952 to start their sophomore year the class chose Shirley Hall for President; Kent Spears, Vice President; Kay Bolinger, Secretary; and Norman Thornsby as Treasurer. They held their traditional sophomore hayride, with the help of their sponsors, Mr. Spence and Mrs. Becker. In the fall of 53 they came back as juniors, with Miss Young and Mr. Richards as sponsors and J. R. Keener as President, with Vice President Shirley Hall, Secretary Bernard Linder, Treasurer Kent Spears. The juniors chose the Golden Vogue by unanimous vote for their class rings. They also presented their class play, I Love Lucy. On December 5 of 1953 they held the Snowball Dance, with Barbara Smith reigning as queen and Stanley Dunn as King. In order to make money for their prom and banquet the juniors had the concession stands at the football games. The class was honored when Shirley Hall was chosen Chapter Sweetheart of F.F. A. Delegates to Girls State were Lois Hanson and Carol Marble. Boys' State representatives were Kent Spears and Jackie DeLong. On May 24, 1954, the Junior-Senior Prom and Banquet was held, with Blue and Silver for the Colors and My Blue Heaven as the theme. The seniors began their last year in B.H.S. with Kent Spears heading the group, aided by Tom Graham, Vice President; Bill Sauerbreit, Secretary; Dieter Mueller; Treasurer; and Mr. Matthews and Mrs. Wood as class sponsors. They chose their announcements and calling cards. Also chosen were the class colors Navy Blue and Silver, and the Motto Nothing Great is Lightly Won. At the last of the year the Juniors gave the Junior-Senior Prom, with the Seniors as honored guests. Their last activities in Brush High were Baccalaureate May 22 and Commencement, May 26, 1955.
