Class History CLASS OF 54 With Mrs. Wood and Coach Johnson as class sponsors, the CLASS OF 54 began their fresh- man year at BHS by electing class officers. They were: Presidents, Don Coulthard, Eugene Needens; Vice Presidents, Marguerite Friehauf, Betty Jo Stitt; Secretaries, Barbara Hunt, Bill Seder; Treasurers, Marilyn Lorensen, Evelyn Thornsby; Student Council Representatives, Loretta Lanphear, Rod MacDonald. Their high school life prospered from the beginning by winning first prize for their Home- coming float. This was the first time in the history of BHS that a freshman class has been award- ed first prize in the contest. According to tradition the frosh humbled themselves by building a large bonfire and flinging the dummy, which represented the spirit of Ft. Morgan, into the blazing fire. Returning to dear ole Brush High for their sophomore year, the class elected officers. They were as follows: Bill Seder, president; Dorothy Christensen, vice president; Marilyn Lorensen, secretary; Paul Headley, treasurer. Student Council Representatives were Virginia Kostman, Eugene Needens, Rod MacDonald. Virginia was elected Associated Student secretary. With the assistance of Mrs. Becker and Coach Spence, sophomore class sponsors, they again entered a prize winning float in the Homecoming parade. On October 22, they enjoyed an eve- ning of fun at the traditional sophomore hayride. At the end of the year ten girls were selected to serve at the Jr. -Sr. Banquet. The sophomores brought their year's activities to a close by de- corating for the Baccalaureate and Commencement exercises. The CLASS OF 54 started their first year as upper-classmen by electing the following officers: Eugene Needens, president; Dorothy Christensen, vice president; Virginia Kostman, secretary; Paul Headley, treasurer. Rod MacDonald, Ronnie Starr, and Bob Spomer were the Student Council Representatives. Rod MacDonald served as Vice President in this year. With the help of Miss Young and Mr. Richards, the class raised money for the prom by sell- ing concessions at the home football games. The highlight of the year for most of the juniors was the presentation of their class play, Rest Assured. The funds from this and the concession stand helped in producing one of the most beautiful proms and banquets BHS has ever seen. In the fall of 1953 the class once more entered the doors of BHS, this time as seniors. Ken Bollig headed the class as president; Walt Atkinson, vice president; Milton Ruhl, secretary; and Peggy Lowry, treasurer. They were represented in Student Council by Eugene Needens, Paul Headley, Bill Ballheim, and Rod MacDonald. Eugene was Student Council President and Paul was the Business Manager. The class took second prize in the Homecoming float contest, largely due to the efforts of their sponsors, Mrs. Wood and Coach Lally. During the Christmas season the seniors in the speech class presented the annual Nativity. On May 27, the members of the class officially completed their four years in BHS. They were the first class to hold Commencement in the new auditorium. At the close of their last year in BHS, the members of the CLASS OF 54 were able to look back on many happy memories. The class extends a hearty thanks to the parents and faculty who have helped to make these pleasant memories possible. Sponsored by JACKSON STUDIO
