The Class of 1951 entered good Ole BHS in September, 1947, as the largest class, with an enrollment of eighty. The eleventh of September was the big day of the year when they were initiated into High School. The girls were dressed in gunny sacks and boys wore skirts and midriffs. Our class officers were chosen in the fall of the year as follows: President, LeeRoy Needens; Vice President, Charles Hoff; Secretary, Georgia Wetzbarger; Treasurer, Neva Owens: Student Council Representative Bob Scott; Sponsors, Mr. Seguine and Miss Taney. The freshman inter-class play was given November 25 in the On the Air form of a radio program in which every freshman had a part and acted it very well. Next year the Class of 51 returned again to the halls of BHS. We had our tradi- tional Sophomore Hayride, which was held out at Rose's Lake. The class of 51 spon- sored several dances, and were in charge of the decorations for Baccalaureate and Commencement. In all of our activities we were under the leadership of our sponsors, Miss Burkett and Mr. Schweers. The class officers were: Presidents, Bernard Johansen and LeeRoy Needens; Vice President, JoAnn Bollig and Bob Scott, Secretaries, Bette Mueller and Charles Hoff; Treasurers. Margaret Adams and Mary Ann Wendt, and Student Council Representatives, Georgia Wetzbarger and Eleanor Koehler. When the Class of 51 started out as juniors, officers chosen for the year were: President, Douglas Tornky; Vice President, Johnny Lynn; Secretary, Lucille Sprigg; Treasurer, JoAnn Bollig: Student Council Representatives, Paul Sorensen and Avis Christensen As money-raising projects we sold hot-dogs, pop, coffee, and candied apples at the football games and sponsored several dances. The main event of the year was the Prom and Banquet; the theme was Stardust. Our junior class play was Our Hearts Were Young and Gay. It was directed under the leadership of Mrs. Wood. Mrs. Becker and Mr. Richards were our sponsors throughout the year. At last the Class of 1951 has reached the goal which they have strived to attain. This year we chose for our class officers: President, Kenneth Pollock; Vice President Harry Osborn; Secretary, Bernard Johansen; Treasurer, Douglas Tornky; Student Coun- cil Representatives, Mary Ann Wendt and JoAnn Bollig. Sponsors were Miss Walters and Mr. Orr. Among the busy days of the Class of 51 were Sneak Day, and Homecoming, at which we took second place on our float. Our class colors are Silver and Blue. Our flower is red and white Carnaiton The class robes are blue with white tassels. The Class of 1951 have as their motto The elevator to success is not running; take the stairs.
