'5 With gay spirits and high hopes, in the fall of ’47, the class of 19.51 entered the bright halls of B. H. S. as freshmen. They had an enrollment of eighty-one. Miss- Taney and Mr. Seguine were chosen as their sponsors. Lee Roy Needens headed the class officers as president; Charles Hoff, vice-president; Georgia Wetzbarger, secre- tary; Neva Owens, Treasurer; Bob Scott, Student Council Representative. The class play w as “On the Air,” a radio program written by members of the class in which every freshman took an acting part. The class of 1951 again entered B. H. S. for a second try. They chose for their two classes, X and Y, Lee Roy Needens and Bernard Johansen, as presidents; Joan Bollig and Bob Scott, vice-presidents; Bette Mueller and Charles Hoff, secretaries; Margaret Adams and Mary Ann Wendt, treasurers; Georgia Wetzharger and Eleanor Koehler, Student Council Representatives. The traditional “Sophomore Hayride” became a cold success; they also sponsored a number of dances and decorated for Baccalaureate and Commencement. They chose as their sponsors Miss Burkett and Mr. Schweers. As Juniors the class of 51 started out with a bang. Chosen as their officers for the ear were, president, Douglas Tomky; vice-president, Johnny Lynn; secretary, Lucille Sprigg; treasurer, Joan Bollig; student council representative, Paul Sorensen. As money-raising projects they sold hot-dogs, pop, coffee, and candied apples at the football games, and sponsored several dances. The main event of the year was the Prom and Banquet, the theme of which was “Stardust.” With lots of work put forth by the class it was one of the best ever given by B. H. S. students. Audrey Church, chairman of the Banquet committee, wi'h her assistants. Rex Schweers, Carla Talbott. Lucdle Sprigg, worked out (lie problem of the menu; they did a wonderful job. Like- wise Joyce Stitt, chairman of the Prom committee, did a swell job on decorating and arranging for the dance; her assistants were Lell Bass. Mary Ann Wendt. Margaret Adams, Charles Hoff. Gene Buggies. The junior class play was carried off with mag- nificent success. It was selected from a number of plays suggested by Mrs. Wood, who also ably directed it. The committee, Lell Bass, Conrad Hoffman, Wilford Tomky, Johnny Lynn, Douglas Tomky, Carla Talbott. Katherine Spomer. and Joyce Stitt chose Cornelia Otis Skinner’s hilarious play “Our Hearts Were Young and Gay.” Mrs. Becker and Mr. Richards were chosen as sponsors for the year.
