Of all our recollections of the cruise, surely we must agree that the hospitality of the peo: ple of Kiel ranks very high. We were wel- comed into their homes, their clubs, their so ciety and enjoyed every busy moment. With wonderfully hot food and legendary beer so easily available, it was impossible to go hungry for long. We left Kiel tired but happy, leaving many new friends behind.

They were a hardy crew, that intrepid band led by LT Ryan with ENS Marfiak as navigator, who went out to race a cutter in the international cutter regat- ta. For six successive days we hotly disputed last place, and happily,lost. In the shadowof the big yawls, the cutter sailors were lost lout the lack of notori- eity did not take anything away from the fierce sailing at the marks or the de- termined competition at thefstarting line. RRKGPING SWEDEN Far inland along a park-like channel sits the city of Norrkoping, Sweden, a small manufac- turing and seaport complex. We unleashed the BRUMBY basketball team and saw them gob- ble up another opponent, toured the fascinat- ing establishment of the Reijmyre Glass Works and made side excursions to the big city, Stockholm. After Norrkoping storm warnings held special interest for all hands as we sought to safeguard our precious store of fine Swed- ish crystal. Highlight of our brief stay was the party given by the local contingent of the Royal Swedish Air Force.
