You looked ahead! 10 points off your paper! English Shakespeare concerned himself with intense emotions and their effects upon mankind. His vivid portrayal of human pathos c tized the new importance of the individual. He. explored depths of emotion in order to show the latent nobility and worth of all men; he made the world re that every person is unique. The era of Will was a testament to man ' s creative spirit. The English courses offered at Tech encompass more than bor- I mgly austere grammar lessons and book reports. Like Shakespeare ' s i work, they are designed to help each student ponder over his role m the universe. Mr. Daniel Cahill, chairman of the English Depart¬ ment, encourages his staff W help Johnny come alive with feeling and sensitivity. Tech ' s English curriculum attemps to create a love for beauty of expression and opportunities for self-expression. ' ditionKTo the regular English classes, the department pro¬ vides honor classes and advanced-placement programs for excep¬ tional students. 16

Man, this Chemistry The dawning of the Renaissance marked the emergence of the true scientific-minded man. The old theories of alchemy were gradually dis¬ proved and finally refuted. Chemistry, still in its incipient stages, eventually gained acceptance as a bona fide science through the tedious accumula¬ tion of scientific data. Today, as in the early days of the Renaissance, there are still fields of inquiry that have yet to be explored in chemistry. Tech ' s Chemistry. Depart¬ ment, headed by Dr. Louis Weiss, attempts to teach to all Technites the essential concepts of chemistry, the basis for all future discoveries. Experimental courses are constantly modified to keep specialized cognizant of advances in the field. 18
