They are foundry workers, pattern- makers, and skilled machinists during their trip through Tech. These mechanics are also heard mumbling about internal combustion engines and strength of materials problems. All is not joy for these boys however, as they are also enlightened in the world of academic subjects.

4 XXI INDUSTRIAL DESIGN The space ships used by future explorers will be very different from the caravels of the fifteenth century sailors, but the problems of their design will be similar. Who will solve these problems along with the engineer? It will be the industrial designer, to whom we owe much of the daily comfort and conven- ience we now enjoy. Our I.D. boys even now adorn Tech's wall's with their professionally executed drawings of future cars, planes, and appliances.
